Can hole in exhaust manifold cause burnt valve and missing?

A Farmall 560 I'm looking at has a burnt valve on #4 cylinder (confirmed by the good folks on this forum) and misses quite a bit. The exhaust manifold has a big crack in it. You can feel the exhaust coming out if you put your hand there and last night I could see flames through the crack (like looking into a furnace). The crack is right between the center and left branch of the manifold, near #4 cylinder. Could this be what trashed the #4 valve? Could this cause missing due to lack of back pressure? Just curious as to why only one valve would go when the rest seem fine.
