cub dies after some work

i got the 52' cub out saturday and started to cut some weeds with the sickle mower. i havent worked the cub that much in the past year, since nothing grew last year, so it had a fairly quiet year. about an hour into mowing, it started sputtering, like it was running out of gas, and finally died. i opened the tank, and it still had plenty of gas. i tried starting it up again and it never would start. i let it set for about an hour, came back and it started right up, so i put her back in the barn. i checked the oil, and it seemed really thin, it just ran off the dipstick almost like water. could these be symptoms of it overheating? the coolant mix is 50/50. i need some help on what to look for first. i got plenty of hay to cut this year.
