Sorry I didn't get to the USS America until 1978. But if a "Fleet Marine" was assigned to a Carrier's Security force he definitely had "his stuff in one sock" as we said in those days. The Gun Boss on CVA's was the department head under which the Marine Detachment's fell administratively. We also owned the magazines that held the 'stuff' the Marines were guarding so we got to know most of the grunts pretty well, good group of grunts for sure. Bet your dad was too. D-2
