No, the final drives should be lubed with 90W gear oil, same as the transmission. Sounds to me like the previous owner had a leaky gasket on his final drive oil pan and instead of putting in 90W and having it leak out, he pumped it full of grease. I would advise getting a couple new gaskets, removing the plug, cleaning out the grease as best you can and replacing the pans and refilling with 90W to the bottom of the filler hole. There is no drain plug in the final drive.
