It sounds like to me it's time for a rebuild. If the smoke is any other color than black then it is burning a lot of oil. If it is black then you have a bad carburetor problem. I would bet that the rings are getting bad and it is time to take it down. You could possibly help the problem temporaily by getting hotter plugs to help burn the oil, but you would just be prolonging the problem. When you tear it down I strongly recommend a complete rebuild. It is money well spent on a engine, espicially a Cub where you need all you can get out it. Bill {Antique Acres}
