I have a gumout kit as you describe for 40 years or so. I run lacquer thinner thru mine to clean gummy deposits out of carb. The new gumout does not seem to clean as good as the product that came in cans, STP works good to remove carbon in cyls, dribble it thru downdrafts , I don't know how to dribble it thru an updraft carb. A fine mist of water removes carbon also over time but not sure if it would clean the valves backside.
Use too much water and it gets to the oil.
