Hi Bill, without looking at the parts/orperators manual, I bet they have a high pressure relief valve to keep the operator from tearing the hydro up when you exceed the capicity of the machine. The higher the rpm the more pressure that it makes and the hydro can't take the torque without doing some damage. So it acts like a governor of sorts. Had you switched from low range to high range then it would of ran just fine. I'm just guessing here as I've never worked or orperated a 656. I would atleast call a IH dealer to check out my therory tho. T_Bone
