I use the SOLAR all the time. They work good. I have three of them and had to repair one. Cost was $80.00 for repair. Right now I have one up to let the grass get a head start and the cows are still on hay, good for us, no problems. I also use them to section off my pastures for rotational grazing every year. They work well for us, we really like them but maybe we're lucky, been three years.

As someone who fenced twice (first solar electric, then field fence), I don't recommend solar(I was trying to keep in goats). I bought the best charger TSC had to offer, then a Parmak magnum, neither could keep the goats in. Now I use it to keep a hot wire on top of the fence.

You can't beat a well grounded line powered unit. I'd put another hole in my head befor I'd use a battery or solar unit.

Line powered units have better shock power.I repair them ,wouldnt use one unless I had a pasture across the road. The batteries are way over priced,50.00 on the 12v units.Replacement circuit boards cost double.I can usually repair the line powered boards.Solar boards have parts you cant buy,mfg wont sell these parts.

Upfront cost is high, and the battery replacement is a killer. I tried one a few years, went back to line current where I can, 12v where I cant.

The solar powered are great. Just cost a lot.
