Recently purchased a 1944 Farmall A with a Belly Blade. I would like to find a pull behind rotary cutter that works well with this tractor. Any suggestions and/or experience in this area.

I'm pulling a 5' Swisher behind my Mitsubishi D1800. The tractor has 18 hp at the pto shaft. It is best if I get the mower spinning real good before I engage the wheels. On a tractor this light it is manditory to have the overrunning clutch. This mower is old, it came with my Oliver crawler.

Hi, Gary
I'm not quite sure if a Farmall A would handle a 5 foot pull-type, "maybe" if you cut only grass, but you would be safer with a 4 foot. The pull-types actually cut better than three-point mounts, the only drawbacks being if you get it on a stump or rock you can't "lift it up" quickly and if you have to back it into a spot it's a little more tricky. Definitely recommend putting an overrunning clutch, which you can buy at any farm supply store, about $60-70 bucks, on your PTO shaft on the tractor. Good luck!
