Hi Jim-
I assume by your title you have a Ford 9N with a 2-bottom plow. The N's were made for plowing. Be sure your shares [points] are sharp. Plow in 2nd gear, full throttle. Once you get your headland and back furrows plowed, set the left rear wheel up on a 6-inch block. Now level off the plow side to side and back to front. If the ground is heavy or never been plowed, it'll be tough. Bush hogging the high weeds first will help. Coulters if set properly would help with the trash. Get a length of #9 wire and run it along the back of the moldboards from the coulter connect points. This will help turn over the sod. Check out the archives on the Ford 9N 2N 8N discussion board for more tips...hope this helps. BTW, I just got in from plowing and discing several acres on my land and two neighbors for deer food plots. This land has not been farmed in twenty years. It has been a real challenge getting it back. I love it!

Speed is probably to slow but your statment about adjusting the plow every way you could think of promps me to remind you that a properly adjusted plow setting down into the ground at the depth you are trying to plow, on level ground, should be level front to back and level from side to side. That is the only way your furrows will be even across the field when done. You crank the right side of your three point link down for the back furrow on the first round and crank it back up for the second round on that land. (land) meaning the portion of ground you are plowing the same way. Normally with small equipment a section of ground 15 paces wide or around 45 feet.

If your plow is not adjust right it just might be your speed. On my Oliver 550 I usually plow in second gear now. Started out in 1st gear and had similar results.

Check to make sure all is adjusted correctly then consider increasing your speed. Two other considerations - a) is this heavy root bed that has not been turned since creation? This is heavy stuff to turn. Disking (lots of it) is what I found resolves this. b) Is dirt to dry to turn over? A little moisture always helps.

I've had the same trouble but only when I was throwing the dirt uphill. Are you going across a hill?
