What is the best way to rid a field of thorns? This field has sat for 3 years and is badly overgrown. Tried mowing and after three flats quit. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I don't know how old your tractor is, but if you just "happen" to have steel wheels for it, that will cure your flat tires while mowing the thorns! :)

I've actually heard of a person doing this.

If your flat problems are on the front tires you might try putting some steel belted truck tires on there. I have heard they work pretty well. Ugly but work.

Get some old wore out tires and cut the bead off. Make sure they are large enough to put over your existing tires. When the thorn goes through those old tires and start to enter the regular tires they will break off from the movement between the two tires. Now talk about looking bad! it does

Thanks for the comments! Burning is out of the question. Will try the chemicals. Once I get this cut back hopefully will not have the same problem again next year.

Hi Scott. I have had thorn trouble too. I got some stuff called Tordon brush killer. I cut them off with pruning shears or chain saw. Then cover the top of stump with tordon. It costs ten dollars a quart here in southwest missouri. Use it straight out of the bottle. A quart goes a long ways. I buy it at the MFA farm supply. Use it the thorns won't be back. Archie

Tire stop leak works I use Berrymans tire sealer it works well, once had a new tube put in repairmen pulled 45 thorns from tire also liners for the inside of tires these will stop a lot of these thorns from coming through. What do the stop leak will stop when done mowing put in new tubes. I do custom bushogging & also clearing my own place slowly. Jim Snow.
