Not to discourage you from buying a New Holland, because they are good balers. We used to use one for years and it worked great (but liked to eat shear pins). But these days we use a Massey Furgeson 24 and that is ONE HAY BALING MACHINE!!! Just another option to ponder.. NH are good, but I like the MF better (it's quite a few year newer, though). Either way, good luck.

I will pass on the advice that was passed to me.
Any New Holland from the model 68 on is good.
JD 14t are ok. JD 24t is fine too.
I got a NH 68 because parts are 1/3rd cheaper if not more from New Holland compared to JD prices.
Example of this. A new Needle for a JD cost about $120 one for a NH is $58
Old JD do make better looking bales. They have a packer fork where the tines need to be adjusted correctly for the NH balers.
I would not be afraid of ether one. as a matter of fact. I now own a NH 268 and am purchasing 3 JD 14t to fix up.

if farmin on a tight budget like many of us and not bailin a thousand acres like some. I like the new hollands and not cause I live only 50 miles from where they were made but I bought the oldest newholland that they made a model 66 for ten dollars at a public sale and spent 16 dollars in parts THAT WERE STILL AVAILABLE and have made a thousand bales since and even bought and owners manual for myself as a christmas present. I have been told that the knotters on the old 66 has'nt changed much from the bailers of much later years and yea I'm happy with my old 66 new holland bialer

I have a JD 14t baler that was used and abused but after a few cussing sessions it works fairly well.My friend has boath a New Hollend and IH balers and we prefir the Ih better the bales don't have ragged eges and they usually all are the same length, the New Hollend din't ever make two bales the same length last year.
