I am new to this farming gig. I really want to do a good job. I have about 10 acres of pasture that I want to make into hay. Its clay soils. i have a Oliver super 55 gas, about 30 HP. I have borrowed a single bottom plow. I dont know how to plow!!!

I tried to plow an area, but the furrow fell back over. I was in first gear, should I be in a higher gear and going faster?

Once I solve the plowing issue, what do people suggest is the next phase? Disc, rototill or cultivate. One person suggested cultivating because the other two make a sheared off clay bed underneath that water runs on and wont hold in the soils???

maybe dumb question --why are you plowing? I bale some of my pastures for first cut(grows faster in spring than cows can eat) late summer I graze what would be second cut. Rank grasses let go for several yrs can just be mowed real short for a yr and legumes frost seeded in. Buying hay for 1 yr is lots cheaper than plowing, fitting, & seeding a new field
