My 861 ford boast 45hp, I am looking to purchase a disc and believe a 2 row 6ft can work, but I would like to hear from anyone who has hooked up one.

alot of the capabilities of a tractor to pull a disc depend on the ground, or rather tytpe of ground it is being used on. I came from the foothills of the Missouri River area btween St Joseph Mo and Atchison Kans, where itwas STEEP. We pulled a 22ft wing disc up and down hills with A&B JDs, H & M Farmalls eaasily. that was loamsoil of the best quality. Now, Im down here in Okieland and my field is flat as a dollar and I cant hardly pull a 16ft wing disc with no wings with my F-30 without seeing Old Faithful come out of the radiatror. This is sandy soil, and thereby much harder for the tractor to stay on top of, which is a harder efgfect on hps than wheather the soil is sticky or sandy. If the tractor can stay on top of the soil, it can pull a good load, but if it drops down under pull and is constantly trying to regain the top, then that is going to tell on the pulling ability of any tractor. BUT, I bought this disc when I was 16, and im 56 now, and so , as long as it wants to disc, than thats what ill disc with. Hope that helps

Paul: A good working disc with 16" blades will require 1.25 hp per disc blade. Larger blades will require more hp. 20" will probably take 1.5 hp per blade. If you can pull substancially more than that the disc is worn out.
