I have recently bought a john deere 495A 4 row planter. I am pulling it with a TO-30 ferguson. My problem is that the planter requires a hydralic cylinder to raise and lower during operation. The gentleman who I bought the planter from kept the cylinder that was on it. I have a cylinder to put on it but no hydralics on the tractor itself....I have an external hydralic pump that can be mounted on the front of my tractor and a valve body to hook it up too....but I need a quick fix to get me through this year...aand I'll have it all set up the right way by next year. Please advise on some way of mechanically lifting the planter during operation....I have thought of maybe using a ratcheting binder...if they make them long enough....please help

There is a ratchet device you can buy fit in place of regular implement cylinder, made specifically for this. People like dealers and farmers who move equipment around from site to site with pickups use these a lot.

You say no hydraulic on your Ferguson, I find that hard to believe. It must have 3 point hitch. You can add a valve to 3 point system for remote cylinders and probably be no more money than the ratchet. I fact the valve body you speak of having can be tee into your 3 point.

Yes we have a three point hitch system on our tractor, and I understand that there is a hydraulic pump down deep inside our tractor, but how do you tap into it. there is no where on the side of the tractor where you can just screw in your hydraulic lines. Also if you can tap into this hydraulic system then why do most end loaders mounted onto Ferguson tractors have an external hydraulic pump on the front of the tractor to run the loader?

Scott: I am not right familiar with those tractors but have seen many of them gears up with remote valve. I am sure if you go to MF dealer you can get the info.

As for the external front mounted pump on MF loader setups, Ferguson systems didn't have the hydraulic presure and even more important volume in GPM to give a loader the speed necessary. There are very few implements out there that would be any problem for system. Because of mechanical advantage on implements not really much hydraulic demand. I have seen many of them operating 4 row corn planters.
