I'll jump in here too, why not? I have a 1955 JD 50LP, I use it to pull a 5' shredder (I think you guys up north call them a Bush Hog or rotary cutter, but I'm in TX...) I also use it with a Continental-Belton post hole digger and a 7ft disk. I normally pull the disk with my home-made harrow tied to the back with chains, my harrow is made from 5 old truck tires tied together in the shape of the olympic rings!

I built a home-made 3-point hitch for it, so I also use a dirt scoop on it when I need to move a little dirt, it works great. I have a little 8n Ford but it doesn't have enough weight to really dig with the scoop so I just use it for mowing around trees and things. The JD 50 is my mower, the Ford is my weed eater...

Yep, us flatlanders up here in Minnesota call them bushhogs. As far as your posthole digger we call that a luxury item. Sold the livestock, could not handle the 16 pound post mall to put the cedar posts in the ground. Definitely seperated the men from the boys.Fun to watch a man that new how to handle the post mall, he could install the post in short order, and it was straight and tight. Tell us what the winter crop is doing if you get time. Top of the day to ya,and keep the wind at your back.

We call em bushhogs down south too. Course you Texans call ponds tanks. Never will forget when I was a kid Uncle Granvile talked about his cows getting in the tank. I ask him how big was this tank and how did he haul it to the pasture?

My first trip to Texas showed me it was a different kind of place. Pulled into the rest stop and the sign said "Watch for Rattlesnakes". I wasn't in Kansas anymore!

I borrowed a 2-bottom mouldboard from a friend who said his 27 hp Kubota would barely pull it deep enough to do any good. My JD 50LP will pull it so deep that you can't see anything but the frame of the plow! I can kill it if I stick it down far enough though. In 2nd gear, it does a good job at a useable depth, and doesn't do too badly in 3rd although it won't pull it quite as deep in 3rd and rolls the dirt over too far.

It works great in the garden in 1st or 2nd gear though, I can plow pretty deep - good for this TX blackland.

I've had pretty good luck with mine, I've had it for almost 4 yrs now. We had one like it when I was 11, but that one didn't have power steering like mine does.

I can pull my disk in 3rd gear, if it's really digging in, or 4th if the ground is a little hard. It's a good machine, about 32hp and no too hard on fuel. I can go out after it's been sitting for a month and it starts right up.

The only bad thing is that it doesn't idle down really slow like my old A used to. I don't know if it's a function of the smaller engine or the propane, but that A would idle so slow you could count the revs. One good thing about the 50 is that it will fit on a smaller trailer, but it's about all I can haul on a small 2-axle trailer. It weighs about 4500 lbs, and even with the wheels all the way in it rubs on the side rails on both sides.
