Didn't want to hijack the tester post, but have a question. I can't find my chart with the formula, so what is the formula for calculating dry matter? TIA

you need to know the moisture content of the material...then that percentage is the water...the rest is dry matter..... 2 examples

you harvest corn silage at 65% moisture and are getting a yield in the wagons of 22 tons per acre....

22 tons/acre times 0.65 (65% moisture) = 14.3 tons of water/acre so the rest
22 tons/acre material minus 14.3 ton/acre water equals 7.7 tons dry matter/acre

a 1100 pound square round bale is testing at 15% moisture.....

1100 lb times 0.15 (15%) equals 165 pounds of water in the bale so the rest
1100 - 165 = 935lbs dry matter/bale
