Was there ever a head made for a combine that would pick corn instead of shelling it? Was there ever a driveable corn picker? Thanks. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Re: McCormick-Deering Combine

Hi,

My husband received a copy of a picture showing his father's 3 foot McCormick-Deering pull-type combine. The copy is in black and white, and we are unable to read any of the numbers on the combine. They started using this combine in 1948 or 49.

Could you possibly provide us with information about this combine ie, Model No., year, etc. Any information you can give us would be most appreciated!

If you cannot help us, could you refer us to someone who might have this information?

Thanks!!
Ruth

My husband's name, address and phone no. are:

Well, a combine head only picks ear corn - the rest of the machine shells it.

I did see a modified combine in Farm Show where they put an elevator out of the throat of a combine & picked ear corn with it, but don't know why. And can't think of a combine that would from the factory.

And of course there were "mounted" pickers that you put on a narrow front tractor.

There was also the Minneapolis-Moline system, that evolved into the New Idea Uni-Harvester. The Massey Harris self-propelled picker would not accept any other attachments.

Well there is the New Idea Uni cornpickers and Byron, AgChem, and Pixal sweet corn harvesters, all mount at least a 6 row head.
I ran unis for about 20 years.

The Uni system started with MM, and was a total harvesting package. You could mount combines, snow blowers, pickers, huskers, shellers, etc. on it.
