My deepest apology to all the British people.
Our dunder head president thinks a new vacuum cleaner is the best gift a husband could get wife.

I as a proud American do appreciate the support your country has given ours in the two present wars as well as the ones before.

I also apologize for our dunder head media for not taking our dunder head president to task for the lame gift of 25 movie DVDs. That does not show Prime Minister Brown the proper respect. Not granting him a joint press statement or a State dinner in his honor can not be excused.

Dick L, did you include the Posting Guidelines in your post just as an act of defiance?

What in the world are you talking about? What is this onslaught from within? Are you refering to our trying to recover from the heinous Bush legacy? We almost went to war with Britain during the Civil War as they supported the Confederacy while not officially recognizing them.

Yeah, our young, energetic, physically fit, smartest kid in the room, president was just too tired to go shopping. Next excuse will be that the dog ate the homeywork!

Just goes to show what a "prize" we now have in the White House. His dishonesty and pure stupidity will, for sure, bring about "change". This "change" might not be exactly what many have hoped for. Shortly, many of his adoring fans will find that their IDOL has feet of clay. Mr. Bob

Being British, I"m not sure what you are apologizing for, Mr. Brown deserves everything he gets, including, with luck, getting booted out in the next election...

but it"s the thought that counts, thank you...

I also would like to send my apology to Prime Minister Brown and the British people. This idiot does not speak for real Americans. We still stand beside you and will back you.

Am I wrong? Didn't we go TO war with the Brits, to escape their King? And don't they still have a Queen? I for one wouldn't kiss anyones ring. Sure, you thank them for helping us in recent wars, but WE helped THEM in WWI and WWII. Much bigger conflicts than are going on now. Calling our president an idiot-maybe you'd like to live in their kingdom?

Not sure where your history books were printed, but if it hadn't been for the Brtish taking de Fuehrer to task over the skies of England in 1939, it is possible we would be sprechen zie deutsch right now.

I wil be sitting here enjoying my pint of Guinness whilst you ponder on that one.

As much as most Americans hate to admit it, the Germans were mostly defeated by Joseph Stalin and the Red Army. American losses in the European theater were around 1 and 1/2% of the Russian casualtes.

I think we are all pretty fortunate that Hitler distrusted his Generals and though he was the best millitary statigest of all time.

Instead of micro managing his plans to great effect for the Allies. Had he lets the Generals do thier jobs. The world would be a much worse place right now. As it was it took millions of lives and the wrecking of 3 continents to defeat them.

Stopping to finnish off beaten Russian armies instead of continuing to Moscow wile Moscow was there for the taking in 41.
Killing off his Armies in Stalingrad in 42 and the blunder of Kursk in 43 are the main examples.

Indeed. It was the Red Army that took Berlin. In the Battle of Berlin the Soviet Union had 2.5 million soldiers, 6250 tanks, and 7500 aircraft in the battle. The Germans had 1 million soldiers, 800 tanks and 100 aircraft.

The fighting claimed more than 700,000 lives. 100,000 of which were civilians.

Now about that bloody Monte...

Still speaking the Queen's english, however.

Aaron

The red army took berlin because roosevelt wanted them too. Old fdr was in love with stalin called him uncle joe and wished he could get away with the things stalin got away with.

That is total nonsense. Stalin had 300 divisions compared to about 80 for the Western Allies. The Russians lost about 22 million compared to less than 300,000 Americans. Stalin was not about to be denied a pencil in redrawing the map of Europe. FDR called him "Uncle Joe" to make the dictator more palatable to the American people. Roosevelt and Churchill needed to appease Stalin 1)Because the U.S. had its hands full in the Pacific with Japan, and, 2)There was a fear that Stalin would make a separate peace with Hitler as he had done with the Non Aggression Pact of 1939.

American casualties (deaths) in WWII were around 440,000. As in other wars, considerably less than the enemy due to better discipline, weapons, supply, and tactics.

and?

Eisenhower stopped allied armies from advancing on Berlin because it was in the area designated for Soviet occupation. He had no intention of losing American or British lives to benefit the Red Army. Allied Armies in Northern Germany stopped at the Elbe River and held their positions. Southern Armies were diverted further south to take Austria while the generals of the 21st army group looked longingly over Elbe while their troops began occupation duty. German Army group B had been largely destroyed in the 7 day battle that took the Ruhr pocket. Little more than distance (60 miles) stood between them and Berlin on April 1st 1945. It took the Russian armies 3 more weeks to reach Berlin.
