Hear that giant sucking noise?

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district includes San Francisco.
Star-Kist Tuna's headquarters are in San Francisco, Pelosi's home district.
Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to Pelosi.
Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the Samoan work force.
Paul Pelosi, Nancy 's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist stock. In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25, Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would not have to pay the higher wage. This would make Del Monte products less expensive than their competition's. Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark to
the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an 'economic development credit in American Samoa '. Pelosi has called the Bush Administration "CORRUPT"?
How do you spell "HYPOCRISY" ? ?

Regardless of whether that is fact or fiction, Pelosi is a loose cannon. Remember her trip to Syria? If you or I had done that, we would still be in jail. The only thing she did was embarrass the US.

Neither party controls the market on corruption. One of the reasons politicians get away with their behavior. We blindly vote for Party. We only have 2 to choose from. If we don't busy ourselves finding out what an individual (a smooth tongue is not a qualification either) politician stands for, we don't have a chance.

If ya research this a bit, you will find most of it to be false. Pelosi's husband does not own the stock, and the Congressional rep for the islands asked for the exemption on wages. Not Pelosi.

I guess it just depends on who you believe:

"Q: Did Nancy Pelosi get wage breaks and tax credits for the American Samoan operations of a company in which her husband owns $17 million worth of stock?
I received this e-mail. Is it true?

A: This widely e-mailed claim is false. Pelosi's husband doesn't own that stock, despite what a bogus Wikipedia entry briefly claimed. Furthermore, American Samoa never got the minimum wage exemption it sought..."

Have you ever "checked " exactly who is behind Fact Check.org ? I didn't think so or you wouldn't cite them as an unbiased authority on anything.

I didn't say they were unbiased. My point is a ton of that incendiary stuff floating around is either fake or severely distorted and it pays to check around.

Plus, for some reason, Google had their opinion ranked a lot higher than yours...

Who is factcheck.org? And, who verifies what they report?

I am suspect of a lot of things.....but I do not doubt for a moment that a corrupt politician will feather their own nest at any opportunity.

see if factcheck.org can verify if Lady Bird Johnson owned stock in Bell Helicopter during the VFN war.

Not that I'm for her in any way...

I just wish they would get the Federal debt under control. That is my main worry...

Ten trillion dollars worth of debt works out to about $35,000 for every single person in the USA! Someone is going to have to pay that back one of these days with interest.

The government can't keep spending money it doesn't have.

Why with interest. The $ never existed to begin with. They just printed more. And so who would the interest be paid to? This is a serious question to ponder.

Howard,

All political leanings aside.....right, left, center, upside-down, whatever,..... .the deficit will never be under control, nor will the loans ever be paid off..... it is simply too big and too far gone.

The Fed has only a few options: Do as our debtors have historically done..... default, or ask for debt forgiveness. Lastly...have a world war, where we see our economy rebuilt due to mass manufacture of war materiel.....as during WW2.

I think the Government should just declare bankruptcy..... .tell the lenders...we're broke, we can't/won't pay and you can't get blood from a turnip.

As it is, our fine politicians seem to think the answer is...another new tax or an increase of those already on the books. Sad thing is, one day the citizens will have to say..... we're broke, there is nothing left to take...we're bankrupt and you (the Feds) put us there.

The dog is chasing it's tail.
