I just got an old sidewinder mower deck, you know the yellow deck with a tire clutch. It wont cut worth a flip, so i'm going to attempt to pull and replace the blade. Does any one have advice on the best way to do this?I've never even looked under one before!

Scott, a friend of mine just bought a used sidewinder and asked me to get it to working. The blades aren't that hard to change on this one because there is a hole in the top of the mower behind the blade support that lines up with the bolt that holds the blade on. The bolt is supposed to be flat on one side so it will hold itself while you tighten or loosen it. It takes, I think, a 1 5/8" socket to fit it and probably a long pull handle with a cheater bar, or a good air wrench to take it off. The hole may be covered with a round flap of metal held on with one or two bolts(I can't remember which). Hope this helps. Moye

SCOTT, My cousin & i used one of those for about 3 years. i think before i tried to remove the blade, that i would try to lean it up against something sturdy & sharpen the blades with a hand grinder if there is enough blade to sharpen. our experience is that they bog down pretty easy,or the tire would start slipping if you get into heavy grass, or brush & don't really have the rpm,s revved up there. it was a pull type & we bought a tail wheel & hitch off a junked bushhog, & converted it to a 3 point hitch & it worked better for us! hope this helps.
