The Senator from Arizona was a much better bomber pilot than he was a Presidential Candidate. He was only shot-down ONCE as a bomber pilot. He was shoot-down TWICE as a Presidential Candidate. Once in the primaries and once in the general election.

He crashed 3 times before he got shot down in Vietnam.

In 1960 he crashed into Corpus Christi Bay

The 23-year-old junior lieutenant wasn't paying attention and erred in using "a power setting too low to maintain level flight in a turn," investigators concluded.

In 1961 he flew a skyraider into power lines in Spain.

In 1965 He crashed a T2 trainer in Virginia.

What are you talking about, what, allowing people to keep more of the money that THEY earned? Who the hell are you to say how much people can keep from their earnings. You are a prime example of whats wrong with this country. You want more money, go EARN IT, and keep you grimy mitts out of other peoples pockets. Jack

The top 25% of wage earners pay 86% of the total tax load of the country. What?, that's not enough for you. They pay plenty. Unlike you, I do not hate people who make more money than me. It's their money, they earned it. You want more money, go earn it. Stop thinking, 'it's not fair, they have more than me.' I don't sit around whining because some people have more than me. I go out and work harder, and try to get more for myself. I can't even relate, to how you people think. NOBODY owes you anything. You are responsible for yourself. Where does this sense of entitlement come from? And by the way, if your making 30 to 40 grand, you're not paying any Federal taxes anyway. Jack

"The top 25% of wage earners pay 86% of the total tax load."

I've been doing some research on this statement. All I can figure is somebodies pulling the wool over somebodies eyes, like the rich can say they're doing the poor some kind of favor or get the attention away from them not paying any taxes.
First, what the government is calling rich is anybody making over $104,000. That ain't rich in anybodies books. Second, in the populous there are obviously more people in the middle income bracket that any other by a huge margin. I call the middle income those people that are earning $20-200K. Even the poor pay taxes. If you make 10K you pay on about $3000 after standard deductions. And the rich have the same standard deduction, so you're not paying on the $7000? either.
"if your making 30 to 40 grand, you're not paying any Federal taxes anyway"
Don't know what tax code you go by. These are the same tax rates for the past twenty years with minor variations.
2008 Tax Brackets
Tax Rate Single Married Filing Jointly 10% Not over $8,025.. Not over $16,050 15% $8,025 - $32,550.. $16,050 - $65,100 25% $32,550 - $78,850.. $65,100 - $131,450 28% $78,850 - $164,550.. $131,450 - $200,300 33% $164,550 - $357,700.. $200,300 - $357,700 35% Over $357,700.. Over $357,700

So if you know something different than this, just spit it out.

I don't know where he got the idea that I dislike people that make more than me. I just have no regard compassion or use for those that acquire it by unscrupulous means. Wall Street comes to mind! Those that I've met that were born into millions, have no concept of what it is like to work for a living. Senator McCain is worth over 130 million! Nothing against that, but how can he grasp the concept of budgeting your pay for food, gas, utilities, mortgage each month?

tlak,

It is obvious that you understand the graduated income tax payment amounts. I haven't looked at the 2008 Tax Tables for singles, but the 2007 rates were:

If your TAXABLE income is:

$0 to $7,825 rate is 10% of all over $0
$7825 to $31,850 rate is $782.50 + 15% of all over $7,825
$31,850 to $77,100 rate is $4,386.25 + 25% of over $31,850
$77,110 to $160,850 rate is $15,698.75 + 28% of over $77,100

The personal exemption in 2007 was $3,400 plus the standard deduction was $5,350. So, a single person could earn up to at least $8,750.00 and pay no income tax, then the amounts start at zero for computing TAXABLE income. In your example, a single person earning $10,000 would pay 10% on $1,250.00 or a total of $125.00.

If that single person had itemized deductions, child support payments, 1/2 of self-employment taxes, moving expenses, education loan expenses, IRA deposits, SEP payments, etc., etc, his/her TAXABLE income would be reduced even further.

I'm really glad to see someone who understands our tax system.

There isn"t any reason we have to consider John"s failure to win the election as any kind of disrespect for him as a person, for his military service or for his sincere efforts to help his country, as he saw fit, as a Senator...
The lack of support for his policies is completely separate and apart from the admiration and respect for his accomplishments...

No...I don't think being a war vet qualifies you as a presidential candidate, but it darn sure shows his love & dedication to his country & the sacrifices he has given to her!! On the other hand, I wouldn't call 20 years following with a reverand like Jeramiah Wright, not wearing a flag lapel, not pledging to the flag, & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on & on as dedication & putting the country & people as a priority.

You know Joe, one of the most respected ministers I know of in our area has a friendly saying that 1000's of people have heard. It is simply "I want you to be my neighbor in heaven." Well, when this life is over for me, I know that's where I'll be, and I hope you will be too. The reason I say this is because for someone who does a lot of "preaching", you are truly one of the last people I'd ever want for a neighbor on earth. Thankfully I'm not searching for something in terms of religious beliefs, but I just want you to know that if I was, what you have to offer is the LAST thing I would be searching for.

If I remember right the -A- designated attack aircraft. As I remeber they were not quite fast enough for fighter aircraft, but they did serve many tasks during this time, was a very reliable aircraft.

According to Wikipedia's biography of John McCain:

"In October 1967, while on a bombing mission over Hanoi, he was shot down, badly injured, and captured by the North Vietnamese."

So we know: (1) that McCain was a pilot; (2) that he was shot down while on a bombing mission over Hanoi.

From that information, I think it's only logical to conclude that McCain "flew a bomber," unless he was simply excess cargo on the "bombing mission" that was shot down.

McCain has served this country honorably.

The official designation of the "A4" was "Attack aircraft". It could hang various weapons on the hard points of the wings and center line such as a bomb. That said it was not a bomber. Think B52 for that era when you call an aircraft a bomber. Consider that you could drop a small bomb from any light aircraft but that dosn't make it a bomber. I hope you USN guys arn't offended if a AF guy puts in his two cents worth.

He was shot down because he stayed on course & dropped his bombs after his warning system alerted him that SAM"S were about to strike. He was struck & a wing tore off. He ejected & received multiple injuries, broken arms & leg when hitting the canopy opening on his way out of the plane. many pilot"s were injured as they ejected as planes do not fly straight with one wing.
