This forum has now become almost useless to anything related to tractors. Two out of three topics are OT and most of them are rants about politics. And, there is no mistaking the racial undertones.

If this is the best that "Yesterday's Tractors" and their forum monitors can do it's time for me to leave.

Too bad it used to be very useful and informative

It'll be back to all tractors in a few weeks. In the meantime, don't read it if you don't like it--while you still have the freedom to do it.

You said it guy. I seldom if ever read past the first two words if I find poli ticks. Besides who's stupid enough to change their minds because some one tells us how clear everything is because he knows the facts and no one else does. They usualy show some sort of power they must feel by being the so called guest speaker because of their excelent ---OPINION.

My father was not a wise man, but always said about religion when being advise on the RIGHT ONE!--So what religion was you brought up with? And ya say the rest of the worlds folks that don't get on your religion train is surley headed for he--ll?

I personaly can't think for one moment about anyone voting a straight ticket. And for all the wise folks who write in newspapers, cover TV interviews etc. Maybe,... just maybe they have a opinion long before they do their business. And further down the line someone is helping them along or maybe favors are being exchanged.

I favor no party, and I will speak of GWB when he was speaking to the auto workers in a warehouse. On TV a person pointed out that the three boxes he was standing infront of were indeed boxes. Yet the back drop was only a painted backdrop with hundreds of boxes and shelves painted on like a giant picture. And for crying out loud do we think for one moment the other party does'nt do the same?

Anyone here think the debates are no preprogramed, or outlined what question can and can't be asked? That stuff is even in our small forms of government as well.

So to bad when someone is lectuing us on how to vote, perhaps we should all inform the guy to shut up by puting it to a vote as well.

OK, OK I seen the results of you guys wanting me to shut up as too.

For those who are a still a readin---I would also like to coment on the simple minded headlines on 75% of the posts---like... need information --or got a problem---or timing question... Why the heck don't they put the make and model in the subject line. It would sure save alot of time for me. Granted their are days that I have to much time on my hands, but I feel many question could be answered if they understood what a subject line is intended for. Many are smart enough to put OT in the subject line, and then it's MY falt if I read it--no one elses.

YEA YEA I know--its the... shut up NE IA on all your minds now, so I will.

PS all the above is Only a OPINION as well.

I don't see what the problem is... I've been around here for better than 5 years now and I've always thought of TT as an 'off topic' forum generally. If I want to talk about a specific tractor I'll go to that 'brand's' forum.
If I'm not interested in a thread in any forum I simply don't read it...
I also think this place would be pretty dull if all we ever talked about was tractors.

Well JW I hate to see you go.

Please check back here a few weeks after the election. Things will be bact to normal again after then, until Feb. when every one gets cabin fever and gets real hatefull to each other. Then no one will be on here April till the end of June when we are all working our tractors to put out a crop and get hay in.

As for your out look, the way I see it every thing in life affects my tractors and cows. By that way of thinking the price of gas, politcs, ect, are tractor topics, and I just roll with it. If I want to talk about a certan tractor I go to the brand site here, where all the experts on diffent color'd iron resides.

If some one has posted something racist and offended you, I gotta say I am sorry for the whole group.

Take care and hope you come back the coffie table some day.

she should have let it run it self.all the politics would have gathered there.

Racial undertones? Like the 12year old girl in FL that wore a "Go Sara Go" T-shirt and was harassed by other kids saying it was racist.

The politics (current hot topic) will die down about two weeks after the election. Then grow again some, when whoever takes office and starts doing things. But not as much as now.

Oh and I have many tractors of many colors. JD IH MF MH and Ford. I learn a lot here on YT and not just about tractors.

I'd say fully 90% of the posts on the site are tractor related. Yes, Tractor Talk has had more political type posts lately because of the upcoming election. This too shall pass. Six weeks to six months ago as gas prices were rising daily it seemed like every other post was on fuel prices. Nobody complained about those off-topic posts. Seems like the topics here run parallel to the topic at the local coffee shop every afternoon. I'm approaching 10 years of reading this site daily and have seen many come and go. It occurs to me that you might be happier somewhere else so I invite you to do so. I personally would like to thank Kim for the great job that has been done here. Keep up the good work

Yes, there have been some OT topics lately. If I see a topic I don't think is very interesting, I don't go into it. If a post is very OT or has a lot of bad language, fighting, name calling, or things that should not be here, I report it. I still think YT is a very good website. I still learn something every day from YT. If you want tractor topics only, go to the board for your favorite make of tractor.

Well, yeah, some of the topics aren't about tractors. Some not even about farming. There are specialty boards for them below. And yes, we have pushed the boundaries far beyond what some envision as the mission of this board. However, I have found this board to be a huge resource of knowledge about many topics of interest to us farm related folks. I have gotten a number of answers which have saved me time, money, and everyday struggles. I think it is worth it, and if I have to sort through a few OT's that don't meet my interest, oh well! As long as Kim allows it, and may God bless Kim and all the folks who frequent here!

My post have been deleted but that don't make me mad anymore. But if I have a question about something tractor, car, or woman I can get it answered here. People might look like they hate each other sometimes but they will reply with a good answer if you have a problem. I check this site daily and have learned a lot from it. Two more weeks and we will be looking for a OT post to have something to read. Stick around, read, and learn. DH

Well, JW, it reminds me of my favorite pork barbeque eatin" place. I go there to eat pork barbeque and I am not interested in chicken or steak or (heaven forbid) hamburgers. Those things, however, are on the menu. (I suspect to keep the folks coming to eat even if they decide they want something different that particular night. That is the great thing about learning to read - when you can read the menu, you can skip right over the things you are not interested in and go right to the source of what you came for.

I would, therefore, suggest you take a few reading lessons at your adult education location and your problem will be solved! (Or maybe I am wrong - should I be telling the owner of my favorite eating place to get the non-barbeque items off the menu or I am not coming back???)

Can't remember when I've seen so many replys to a post. I'm with most of the others who have replied. If you don't like it, don't read it and wait until you see something that suits your fancy. The upcoming election is BIG and therefore it is not surprising that there is some discussion on the subject. Most of the time, the stuff that is discussed on this site is related to tractors and that is good so if from time to time we drift to something that is equally important, so be it. This too will pass! If it bothers you that much, move on.

I understand how you feel and sympatize.

This election is very important and many people feel very strongly about it and want to voice their opinions everywhere they can.

I have stopped posting about politics, but I do add threads to those already started.

The truth is, however, that if you see the "O/T" in the heading and don't like O/T posts, why do you open them?

Fear not, the election will be over soon, and with it all these poitical topics. At least after those on the losing end voice their frustrations and the winners gloat some.

Best Wishes,

Brian

The good ol gang is all here yet. I f you ask a tractor question, some one will give ya some help. This place is a great "coffee shop", "grill n bar", "after church" tractor and farm talk. Just like in them places, current issues will take over talk of engines and iron when they are of such an important nature. I commend Kim and the folks for allowing a few posts that are political. It's up to is to keep it clean and respectful. I have seen many, many post's that have had to been removed and they were On topic only issues, but some folks even have to stir trouble in on topic discussions. What this country needs is campaigns based on issues and a candidates beliefs, ambitions, and history. Get the 2 sided parties out of the picture and let real American's be elected, then hold them all accountable, say what you mean, do what you say, or face consequences for misleading the nation during your campaign. Your new, glad to have you, see you after the election. We'll all be hitting the corn hard by then.

While walking down the street one day a farmer is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see an intelligent being like yourself around these parts, so we"re not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the farmer.

"Well, I"d like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we"ll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I"ve made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the farmer.

"I"m sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other folks who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while on Earth.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises ...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

"Now it"s time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the farmer joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you"ve spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The farmer reflects for a minute, then answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he"s in the middle of a barren land covered with chicken bones and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in turbans, picking up the trash and putting it in white bags as more bones fall from above...

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. "I don"t understand," stammers the farmer. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there"s just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says...

"Yesterday we were campaigning. Today you voted Brutha, and we"re sharing the wealth"

I am with you, JW Axtell. I come back here by habit, but have really been turned off by all the politics. I will be checking back in, but I am, for most intents and purposes, gone.

Don't know if y'all have noticed but a lot of folks have already left.

The jackalls are winning. They can have it.

Sorry I don't see your problem.

Racial Under tones???? You got to be kidding. Your seeing things because you want to.

You've only been around for two months. So how do you have any real perspective on what this site is or has become?

Yes politics are a big topic right now for every one. By Nov 7th it'll be how did your harvest go, and what are your winter repair projects.

For every thing there is a season.

Stay or go, that is your choice, I'm not here to hold your hand or shead a tear for you.

Jeff

Really don't understand your concern. It is easy to ignore any posts that don't interest you. Apparently you must be reading the ones you don't find interesting fairly extensive to discover what you consider to be racial undertones. I suggest that you avoid the posts that are not tractor related and let the forum monitors do the "hall montoring".

The forum monitors have better things to do than baby sit the forum with stuff that isn't supposed to be there in the first place. It is not easy to ignore posts that take up 90% of a tractor talk forum. Maybe the people who want to discuss and argue politics should start their own site? Then everyone could be happy? Probably not! Dave

I get a lot of good information from this site on a lot of things besides tractors. I look at it as maybe self sufficient, rural, conservative, common sense, type of every day life information. Maybe that's because the type of person that is interested in old tractors looks at many things in his life differently from let's say average Joe suburbia in his McMansion. So maybe we can all help each other out with more than just tractors, and skip over the suspicious looking stuff.

Its going to be the most Interesting election I have ever lived through, the economy is the worst I have ever personally seen. So What's up! Do you live in a glass dome, what do you want to talk about weather, your 401k
or your .410 shotgun sorry O.T. Fuel prices to heat your house OT, or only to run your tractor, Relax if you don't want to read O.T. don't. I think there is a heck of a lot more common sense, and thought out opinions here, then your going find in any slanted news casts. Matt if your are leaving because of the O.T. Remember it took 2 seconds of your life to open and close a post that didn't interest YOU, then I'm sorry. So whats' up you have a question about a tractor lets here it!

The election will come and go and so will the economy. Endless posts about it aren't going to change anything. One of things that was nice about YT was that you could get away from all the politics and BS going on and just talk about more general stuff going on around the farm or homestead. Dave

Gas is still too expensive to run the tractors, the economy is in the toilet, and this election is mighty important. I wish Mike Huckabee hadn't dropped out so early, he was my favorite early in the race.

How about McCain and Palin?

There used to be a political forum but it got taken off. O/T topics have always been welcome. Politics is a very specific O/T that has been taken off and was supposed to be banned. It would be nice if everyone could understand this. I'm sure there are other sites that allow politics. This one doesn't. Lets give YT a little respect and abide the their rules. Dave

if you are looking for brand specific topics, you can hop to the specific boards. general questions come up on tractor talk. but also, there are a good bunch of people here who have knowledge in a lot of different areas. pretty much anything you need to know, from rebuilding a torque amplifier to help with your childs math homework, somebody here will try and help you out. being an election year and having the economy tank has a good majority of folks worried. so, the political topics come up.

There are 20+ other forums on YT specifcally for tractors. Sites evolve over time and tractor talk has become somewhat like the old general store that every farming community used to have. The election/ economy is on just about everyone's mind as we're at somewhat of a crossroads in this country. If this state of current affairs bothers you, just skip the OT threads. Kim and Chris will delete most of them overnight anyway.

I don't see why you still can't post about tractor related problems. If something says O/T don't look. I see it this way. If someone comes to my place and just wants to talk about tractors the entire time, I will probably find something I need to do real fast. The O/T posts about B.O. and Mc Cain will be over in 14 days. Stan
