Anyone know anything about the Cub Cadet 147? I can't find any information on it and I have found one for $150. Says it has a 10hp Kohler that runs fine, needs an electric motor for the deck lift and needs a muffler. I don't have any serial numbers or part numbers yet, but I would still like to get an idea on what I'm getting myself into.
How old can it be? Where do I find parts? Am I going to go broke buying parts for it? Is this a collector item or simply another yard tractor?

I own a 147, bought with a non functional electric lift. I thought that the parts would be available, but I can buy almost every part EXCEPT the parts for the electric lift. (you can get the motor from a cub dealer for $89.00, but the gears and other parts are nor sold). I was lucky and got and modified a manual lift and I now use the mower to cut my 3 acre lawn. You can also still get the service & repair manual for the 147.

I have a 147 with an Electric lift also. You can still get parts for the lift from Duff-Norton. They are the OEM for the lift. Here is a spec sheet on the lift>Link
and>Link here is the link to their website. Link They have autherized repair centers. It will cost $180 to completely rebuild and $280 for a brand new lift.

i had the same lift on my 149.it never worked.matter of fact, they never worked well when they were new.the PLASTIC gear inside strips out.the gear cost me 90.00 bucks twice befor i smartened up!i mounted a little electric winch under the seat in the tool box,ran the cable though the lift arm hole ,and hooked to the deck,or it could hook to the snowblower.worked great! missery

A 147 Cadet should have a 14hp Kohler. That's what the 1st two numbers mean. An odd final number indicated hydrostatic transmission; even is manual. The 147 came with either a hydraulic (much prefered) or electric lift. IH had some problems with the electrical lift. One was that the operator did not properly set the stops and over extended, eventually causing failure. There were other options available, too. and a whole range of attachments.

Sounds like that one is some kind of 'put-together' Cadet. Is the deck good?. That could be a saving point. For a parts machine, MIGHT be OK. Seems high to me. or maybe you could get a 14hp engine.

Also, hydrostatic typically consummed about 2hp. Therefore, if you're planning on a lot of mowing and have hills/grade, you may find it to be rather underpowered. (It is a 107 with that 10hp engine NOT a 147)

Just some thoughts.

the 147 was made in 1969 and continued production to 1971, I posted a link for a cub cadet forum but watch what you post they get upset if you post "how much is it worth" and "what year" questions. they can help you with part numbers though.
