takes 2 or 3 hours and one you figure will take you an hour ends up being 15-30 minutes. I went to change the thermostat in my Allis C which should have been a 30 minute job if all went right but no bolts had to brake and then had to be welded on etc to remove them. And then also yesterday I took off an shield from a NH 68 baler to put in on my NH271 and figured it would take me around and hour to do and it took about 30 minutes.

Those oil filters will come off a lot easier if you never put any oil or grease on the gasket and be sure that the base where attached is wiped clean and dry. Bud

I don't have the answer for your question. I'm still trying to figure out why in the wide world of sports, it takes 4 to 5 hours to do a 1/2 hour job. Recently I changed the oil in my future wife's Chevy Blazer, and it took me 4 hours to remove the idiotic oil filter. I had to remove the guard under the engine to be able to put a fair sized pipe wrench on it to the oil filter to get it to budge. The idiot before me must not have put any thing on the rubber of the oil filter, or used a tiny bit of oil on it. I always, always put a dab of grease on the rubbers on the oil filters, so that they come off a lot easier. You can almost turn the filters off by hand. No Fuss No Muss.
Bruce. Sorry for venting.

Went to change the oil on a 318 plymouth one evening-that filter was supposed to be turned 1/4 turn after contact, by hand. WELL-it must not have been-we had to destroy the filter to get to the base, so we could loosen it! Took us 4 hours, if I recall. Greg
