Well its getting close to hay baling time. So now I need to figre out which tractor to hook up the the NH271 square baler. Last year it was a no questions asked thing I used an Oliver 77 but I sold it. So now heres the ones I have to use. Farmall H, Case SC, Allis WD, Allis WD45 or an Allis D-17. Which one would you use and why. I'm thinking the H may be a little on the small side but not sure but figure the D-17 would be over kill.
Thanks

My Dads cousin baled with a Ford Jubilee for years. His baler was an IH 430. Hope this helps.
Bruce.

Well the one thats is the closes has a ford hay rake on it. Thats the WD45 probably will leave the rake on it and maybe use it to rake with at least some. I prefer to use my JD-B or My Allis C to rake with because they burn less gas. All the others are still parked in the shed and have not been taken out of winter storage yet

I'd vote for the SC - isn't that the one you were fixing the clutch on? Might as well give it a good workout.

Yep thats the one that had a broken pressure plate. I ended up taking it to a machine shop and having them weld the broken parts. And so far it has worked well.

Good job...I guess. At least it can earn some keep now. It ought to do OK baling unless you try to plug the baler up. I remember a lot of guys baling with smaller tractors in Indiana - most that would pull a 2 bottom plow had enough torque to bale with. Pulled some big wagons behind too.

D17 hands down choice by far; if you can afford the fuel.

Well I use an Oliver Super 88 on my round baler and a 77 on the moco so there still out doing a good bit of the work. But I figured I had 2 77s so I didn't need them both. I would love to find a S77 and or a 88 but so far I haven't. Of course I would also love to have a S55 or a S44 but again haven't found one and been able to afford them either

D-17, because of reasons others have mentioned and staying away from turning PTO; you "NEVER" get off the tractor with the PTO running, right? Of course you do; show me one person who's ever run a baler who hasn't.

Plus the D-17 has power steering so that might be a plus as far as driving it for an hour or 2

Use D-17, Safer , do not have to mount tractor by stepping close to PTO shaft. Also rides smoother.

I'd try the one with the most fuel first LOL . then when you get low I think the WD would do just fine

The D-17. Baled a lot of hay with one of those on a 24T.

If you use any of the Allis tractors, use the D 17. The WD or the WD45 will break your back if you ride them more than 10 minutes. In my opinion, the most uncomfortable tractors ever built. They were designed to ruin a good human frame.

The H is a nice tractor but too light, just like walkin 2 steps ahead 1 back, try the D-17 it will do just fine.

A Farmall "H" and an AC d17 compare about like a Volkswagen Beetle and a Chevy Corvette respectivelly. I've opereated both, thusly I know from experience. Mr. Bob

I'm not familar with the AC stuff so much, but I'd take anything with live pto over anything else. Wouldn't even have to think about it. Sounds like you have a few to pick from with that option.

Old I don't think the D 17 is overkill at all.

Bout the smae HP as your 77 ain't it.

And probably lighter than the 77.

It would aslo have livepower that the H doesn't have.

D-17 as per neb test is 52HP and the Oliver 77 is 38HP. Thats why I say it might be over kill. But yes it has live PTO but so does the WD, WD45 and case SC
