There has to be someone out there smarter than me when it comes to trailer brakes. Problem: My breakaway switch stopped working. Last time this happened it was the battery. I bought another batt. still no breakway brakes. I checked the breakway switch and have power at one leg. I thought this switch just completed the circuit. I pulled the pin, and don't have power to either wire. Now what. Trailer brakes work good other than that. Thanks for any help. Stan

check the connection on the bat. you may have them switched (just a suggestion) the + should go to the switch and the - to the frame

You have the right idea.Thats how they work. The switch is connected to the battery on one side and the brake lead wire on the other. When the pin is pulled the switch connects the battery directly to the brakes. 12v from the battery direct to the brakes makes a for slam on the brakes emergency stop. If you have 12v measured to ground on one side of the switch and then no power to either side when you pull the pin you either have a bad connection in the switch or a battery that cannot supply enough power to actuate the brakes and just goes flat under a load.
