A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in

our country.

Well, there's a very simple answer.nobody bothered to check the oil.

We just didn't know we were getting low.

The reason for that is purely

geographical.

Our OIL is located in

Alaska

California

Coastal Florida

Coastal Louisiana

Kansas

Oklahoma

Pennsylvania

And

Texas

Our DIPSTICKS are located in Washington, DC !!!

Any Questions???

NO? Didn't think so.

The problem is..... if you added all that US oil from all the locations, you would have 10 -- 12% of what we use.....where are you gona get the other 90% ?

U.S. Domestic Crude Production, February 2008: 148,000 Barrels
Link

U.S. Imported Crude AND Refined, February 2008:
365,000 Barrels
Link

You can play around with the number at the Department of Energy more if you like.

We produce about 30% of our Petroleum needs currently. If we want to maintain that, we need to open up California, Florida, New England, and Arctic waters to exploration and development now; otherwise we'll fall even further behind the 8 ball as the Gulf of Mexico declines.

Combine that with sensible conservation measures, expansion of nuclear energy, plug-in hybrid cars, etc it really isn't unrealistic to believe between increase production and reduced demand we could be 50% domestic in 20 years.

Where do you get that information? This country has a hellava lot more than 10% of it's oil supply not being used. If we were to let it be known that we were going to be drilling for our own oil, those same speculaters that are driving the price up, would be bidding the price right back down. I see that the mighty Dems. are "grilling" those "evil" oil execs. again. The execs. are telling them we need to get more of our own oil. But no, The Dems. are threatening to enact the "windfall profit tax" Which will be passed right on to us. And lead to shortages when these global companys go elsewhere with production, to avoid the tax here. I'm wondering how much further this is going to go. What are we going to do this winter, pay $7-$8 a gallon for heating oil? The answer is to increase our own oil production here. Jack

I prowl the boards every day, but don't post much unless I have something of value to add. Your post was right on target.

Yep, road trips are down a bit. Got back from the long trip last August and stayed home pretty much all winter. Did go to Lakeland, FL for a big air show in April...not for the planes but I drive a tractor pulling trams hauling folks around for a week. That gets all my built-up driving wishes taken care of for a while.

Going to Iowa in June and back in July...not near the 9,800 miles we went last year.

Thanks for the reply,

Stan

yea last time we e-mailed you were on that trip and I only post if I have something useful or in this case funny not meant to be accurate as in one of the other replies was questioned. in most cases if someone has posted me thoughts on stuff I leave it I am not interested in having the most post to get my rating up from Regular to Expert.
