A few years back, in broad daylight, someone drove into my FIL's hayfield with a couple of trucks, trailers and a tractor, loaded up his round bales and drove off. Neighbors saw it happening and just thought he had sold the hay. They sure felt bad later when they found out it had been stolen. FIL put this sign on the gate "anyone caught stealing hay will need an undertaker to wipe his a$$". He never stored his round bales on the edge of the hayfield again.

My cousin's father's Pete 379 500hp tractor truck was stolen from his logging property a few years back. They unhooked the log trailer and just casually drove off at 2 in the morning.

Nobody knows who did it, never found the truck. I guess it got parted out fast for "Midnight truck parts."

I still think the hired driver was in on it...

I heard once where someone stole a 7520 John Deere 4X4 with duals right out of a field while the owner was in his house less than a mile away eating lunch. It was never found.

How the heck could they pull something like that off? With the duals, it would be way too wide a load to just drive or haul down the highway, and assuming it was loaded on a flatbed semi, it's kinda hard to just disappear with an outfit like that. As I recall, the State Patrol was alerted within minutes after the farmer finished lunch and went back out in the field.

Well, I don't know anything about your story - but I know one of the local big-shot neighbors was in the coffee shop blustering about how he had some irrigation engines "stolen". "right off the well!!", he said!!

He made it sound pretty believable and I was pretty worried - since I had 4 Minneapolis HD800's and a Caterpillar right over in that area...

But one of the neighbors who lived out there and farmed next to him was laughing about it - said he watched the machine shop who had overhauled them back a truck up to the irrigation wells and repossess them because they never got paid!!

That made way more sense - because the guy complaining was a very well known local shyster...

Anyway, my point is just things aren't always nearly like they sound from just half the story...

And I sure didn't mean to say anything on your friend, Mark!!

I know plenty of stuff happens for real!

I hope he gets his Cat back!

Good that you have the serial number, also be aware that under the tag, the serial number should be stamped, if the tags are removed, one on the engine and one is on the back side of the tractor.
