Made half a lap around the outside of the field and parked 'er.

Guess I'll wait and try it again next Wednesday. :>(

Yep, not looking forward to going home in June if it doesn't start raining soon... of course I'll still have all the work, but nothing to show for it. Maybe this living in town and working a steady job isn't so bad after all...

Oh come on Allan, you can do better than that. Whatever happened to your 3 P's. Plow, Pack, and Plant. Besides, if you harrow it, it'll dry out. That is where notill comes in in your picture. Pricey, but saves a few trips if you don't need any deep tillage. We do, unfortuantly. Leastwise, I get to play in some oats Tuesdaywhen the neighbor comes to cut. Horrah. Your consolation prize is getting to work on the Gleaner.

Some comments here suggest that there are misconceptions-over generalizations alive and well about rainfall in Nebraska. One shoe does not fit all, check link below. Also the elevation of the “flat” state goes from about 800 feet to something over a mile high.

What happened to the gently rolling hills and trees?

Yes looks a little wet. Never stops the neighbor. He does it every year, makes a horrid mess of clods with a disk and never gets them broken up. Unless a minor miracle occurs, that being gentle and timely rains, he suffers a tough looking stand whether it be beans, corn or wheat, that yields poorly. But he is 85 years old, a real nice fellow, and debt free, therefore has more than earned the "right" to farm anyway he chooses. The soil conservation distict finally got him to park the plow. Now if only he had a little more patience with that disk or use my cultimulcher...

I think the important question is, how did that 1066 handle the disc?

Wish Dad had your problem, bone dry - no pasture or anything yet. Usually have cattle out the first week of May and there is nothing there yet. The wheat has all come up, but won't amount to much without more rain...

Enjoy your mud!

Steven, went up to Dickinson the other day and I have never seen it so bad up there, still praying for rain up there, looks like we could be up there fighting fire anytime, looks to start raining again on wed, hope we all get a good dose! as you can see in my earlier post, its starting to green up a little but the wind has blown like a hurricane since the blizzard. Sucking the wet out pretty fast.
Allen you better not wait till wed, sounds like another chance of wet moving in and knowing your record there this spring you will probably get wet! good luck.

Just about as I figured it would.

It's all that tractor wants in 4th gear. Glad I turned the screw up a little or it never would have pulled it.

A 20 or 21 foot disc would be just about the right size, but it's okay, I guess.

Seems kind of odd for someone in Neb to be talking about to wet.

Should be a good year for you.

Went half way across Central IL yesterday and didn't see one tractor moving. Thought there were some places that could have been dry enough but probably just on top. Brother is going to try and plant some beans this afternoon. He gets really nervious when he can't go.

Seeding is neatly complete in Manitoba, but it is dry. Dry is nothing new to us. But, over the years (which is getting to be too many), I have had more success planting into dust than mud. Either way, it has to rain here in late May , early June for a good crop: any year.
