Thanks for the help, all.

I figured it wasn't corrosion on the battery terminals, since I had cleaned those not too long ago.

Was kind of concerned about the battery, becasue my brother had put it on the battery charger on "fast charge" for 4 hours (Yikes!).

Took a look at it, and turned on the headlights and tried to start it. Headlights stayed bright, so I figured it wasn't the battery. That was a good tip.

Checked the voltage on the battery (12.5), and checked the voltage on the solenoid, to make sure it was switching over properly, and it was.

I had an old Dodge once that the starter would hang-up from time to time. Dad had taught me to put a piece of pipe onto the starter, and give it a couple taps with a hammer. The truck had been sitting all winter, so I figured maybe it had gotten some corrosion in the starter.

Gave the starter a few taps, and it fired up. She's back on the road, ready for the season!

Thanks for the input, gents. Sounds like I need to do some more work.

But, for now, I'm just going to leave it. She's just a "running around town and Farm and Fleet" pickup.

I forget, does yours have the 4.9 or 5.0? If the 4.9, it's only a 15 minute job to swap starters. I had starter problems with my '88 F150 w/ the 4.9 a few years ago, I got really good at taking it out to replace it. Any auto parts store should have that starter, there was plenty of those trucks on the road.

I second Allen's comment.

I had a '93 F150 that did that, and I had to take the starter out and have it rebuilt. Better get the wrenches out now. It'll only get worse before it gets better...

Hmmmmm, not quite.

If ya have to rap it with a hammer, that starter needs brushes.

I have a 93 that i just put brushes in. Saved the starter by not waiting. Those are baby size starters at that.
