True story. My newest neighbor is the CEO of a global company that just happens to be based in our county. So he is building this huge home on 400 acres to entertain the international business people who come to buy their products. Long story short... I just bought the 3 bay semi shop that is across the road from his driveway. Now I have a place to park and work on my liquid manure trucks. I don't think he will like me to much. I sure did not do it to be mean, but hey, this is the country, not the city.

He might be the best neighbour you ever had too.... We have a guy that moved in around here about 10 years ago. He minds his own business, doesn't complain about what any of the locals do and actually enjoys playing around farming himself. He hires us to do some work for him now and then too. He's not easy to deal with when money is involved, but his word is his bond. Once you actually have a deal, he does stick to it.
I don't care for the way our assessments have been driven up by the value of his property that surrounds us, but he works at keeping his assessment down too. Overall we've gotten along quite well with him as opposed to some of the trash from town that's moved in near some of our fields. We have a lot more trouble from them than we do from him. Give the guy a chance. You might get on quite well with him.

Rod

I gotta go with Rick Kr on this one.

We've had a lot of those folks move in, and they are the people that keep me in business. Usually takes about a year of them trying to keep the place up and then they decide that its way easier to pay me to batwing the place off, buy there hay at a premium price from me if I deliver, and pay top money for me to dig out their driveway when it snows.

On the other hand both the Mennonites and a couple of mega farms are buying in close to me (and paying premium prices for land). In both cases they dont buy anything from me or need me or my equipment. I'll take the wealthy hobby farmers any day.

Is that why I occasionally get liquid waste at the end of my driveway? The neighbor doesn't like me? I thought I was his friend!!! :)

I guess I'll be the bad guy here.

Does this guy not like you, or are you jealous that he has enough money to buy 400 acres then build a house that probably costs $2,000,000.

Now, if there have been words between you, thats a little different.

I have a few neighbors that have moved near me on 10 acres parcels. They moved out here because they love the country. I make a few bucks doing jobs for them, and they actually like to come over and help me out with work. Their kids love to take care of the ducks/geese when I am gone.

But, there is one neighbor... Manure spreading is well timed.

I'm just saying don't pre-judge him too much. BUT, if he has done something to you. I believe you need to respond appropriately.

Rick

Just wait until you see what his house does for the value of YOUR house, at least as far as the tax assessor is concerned.

Looks like a good chance to make a profit. Make sure you vent those tanks out when the wind is blowing his way then put up a for sale sign.
