I use a candle. Long one and rub the sides of the belt while turning. She quiet down quick. IF not you got a bearing noise somewhere. That how we found out the Alt bearing was going out.

I found over the years that some brake fluid applied by fingers does a good job. For this softens the rubber up some. Now do not pour brake fluid on it. Cause the brake fluid will east some paint of things. Use brake fluid on any rubber. We used it for squeaking of rubber mounds under cars. Works great and usually you have some around the shop.

Honey, tar, and a tube of tar in a calk gun is easy. I have not used belt dressing in probably thirty years. Belt dressing and parade tractors do not mix well.

I am 63 yrs old an watched my grandfather apply engine oil sparingly to flat belts to keep them from drying out and losing their grip. He was a owner of a farm equipment dealership and very knowledgable.
