Was rotary mowing on Friday, shut off the pto while I went inside for a few minutes, came back out, try to push the pedal and can't move it. Can push just enoughto start the PTO but not lock it in. Also cannot knock it back to engage the brake. Pretty sure the PTO cluch is too tight, just can't believe it could tighten up like that. Anyway, the book is pretty sparse and doesn't describe the adjustment process very well. Can anyone please describe the adjustment process in detail for me if possible? Also, can anyone think of a reason for this to happen, or another reason that would cause these symptoms? The PTO made no unusual noises. All help appreciated.

Also if it engaged real easy before It is posible for the detent balls to just get out of position enough to not pull in to detent position .It will probably have to come apart.

Is the pto housing over full with thick smelly trans oil?

Last spring I was involved with a 530 with a PTO that wouldn't engage because the driven plates had worn grooves in the splined shaft they slide on. Catching in those grooves prevented them from sliding. Just a thought. The brake did engage if I remember right. This tractor's problem came on gradually, where it sounds like your's did it without warning.Jim

Check your linkage. I had a pin come part way out on my 730 and it blocked movement of the rod from the pedal to the PTO housing. Sometimes it's something real simple like that.

Sounds like the paper lining fell off of the plates and/or they otherwise doubled up.
