what would be a good tractor for me? i plan to do a one acre garden and remove snow with it. i may also do gardens and snow removal for a few neighbors. possibly would want a front loader and grader for it. should i get a tractor with live hydraulics and live pto? what tractors would be best to get implements for at a reasonable price? thanks mark.

You need a Satoh 650G with a 5 foot rear blade...and as luck would have it, I have one for sale! kidding...maybe...
But hey, really- for your use, you just need a smokin' deal on something really cheap. Loaders are nice, but drive up price...blades work fine on snow, just push backwards...spend 2-3K on a runner, have fun and learn, and move up! One thing about used tractors- they do not depreciate. That old Satoh I am selling will fetch every cent I paid for it 10 years ago at auction today, and i have ridden it like a rusty schwinn!

Research the massey 135 and Oliver 550 a bit. Both very nice with live power and pto. $3000-5000 would get you a nice rig. GOOD LUCK

Trying to be cheap now will cause you to spend more money in the long run.

My first tractor was cheap and reminded me of the one I used as a kid. Not versitile enough, sold it. The next tractor had the features I wanted but had too many hours, I was spending too much time and money working on it. I ended up spending about 50% more for my last tractor than I would have if I just bought what I needed the first time around.

Used tractors go up in price, the same tractor that you need this year will be more expensive next year and will lose the use of the tractor during the time you delay the purchase.

The are others that can tell you where and how to get a good deal. I've always been a buy high sell low kind of investor. But I can tell you that you will get good advice about what you should buy here and what you should expect to spend.

Good luck.

Think $3500 to $5000. $1000 to $2500 will get a worn out tractor, $3500 to $5000 will get a great little tractor. Try searching the classified here and a few of the local dealers. Oh yeah, Learn to use whatever you buy properly. Need I say more. HTH.

What $$$ range? Ford 2000-4000, Massey 135-165,etc. would be ample power and cheap. Larger models will also handle a loader.
