I found a 5 year old #5 Lewis Bros. de-caker for sale.It has the opitional spinners.Does this make a decent spreader to put litter out on pastures and hay fields?

I"ve got one just like you describe and the short answer is yes it does a decent job but they are mainly used for decaking. There are better spreaders out there. If the only thing that you are using it for is spreading litter then they have a lot of dead weight, and they don"t hold but about 2 1/2 tons of broiler litter. So there is a lot of back and forth time getting loaded. The belt that turns the spinner is prone to slippage in wet litter but for dry litter they work fine. The pattern width is about 30 feet. Look it over pretty good, especially underneath, because if it has been setting very long the bearings could be frozen and if the chain is in bad shape they are pretty expensive. I"ve always pressure washed mine and greased it when I was finished as well as oiled the chains and have gotten along pretty well.
