We put Sta-Bil in the gas tanks of several vehicles last fall. Started the motorcycle last weekend with NO problems. The Super C started so fast and ran so good it just about scared me! I know we will continue to use this product.

I have used Sea Foam for over 20 years since a local mechanic recommended it for a rough running engine. It did the job. I use it once a year in the fuel, in everything as a preventive measure, and on older rigs that I am getting ready to rebuild I put a can in the oil and work them for a couple hours before draining the oil. Really cleans out the sludge, etc.

As to Stabil, I started using it around 8 or 10 years ago. I put it in my gas cans for the trimmer tiller, mowers, etc. the year round. Mainly year round, because you never know how much fuel you will use during the year. The last couple of years it was so dry here I hardly used any gas. Since I started using the Stabil, I have not had to rebuild a carb. and first thing in the spring they start right up, even though I take no special preparations in the off season.

Equipment gums up more sitting over the hot humid summer than it does over the winter.
Additives are not as important now with today's gasoline. The low sulfur emissions fuel evaporates away with very little residue.

My experience isn't exactly "scientific evidence" - but . . .

When I was working in a small engine and tractor shop late 1960s - early 1970s - we had many customers' machines come in with bad gas. Real bad - turned to varnish. Most often in electric generators and/or snow blowers that hadn't been started or maintained in a few years at least. So - #1 that was years ago with leaded gas and #2 it was also in New Jersey where's it's a lot warmer than here in New York.

Now - to present - 2000 and later - I have many pieces of equipemnt that sit sometimes for a few years or more with no Stabil and the gas barely turns. Starts to darken a little and smell bad - but the tractors still start right up. I've got over a 100 gas tractors and don't drain them all - or use Stabil in any except for a few I worry more about. Every year, I pick a few to get running to take to shows - and every year I pick different ones. I usually pick tractors that have sat at least two years with untreated gas (mainly because I worry they've sat too long). All have started fine with the old gas. I have more problems with no spark since points tend to get a coating on them when a tractor has sat a long time. So - at least from what I'm seeing here in New York - with New York weather and New York formulated gasoline - I don't need Stabil unless I know something is going to sit for many years. But - gas can be different all over the country - and also by winter or summer blend - as to the ingredients used in it. I suspect some gas blends go bad faster than others.

My main point is this. I wouldn't give any credit to Stabil doing anything unless . . . you've got two gas jugs bought at the same time, and stored the same amount of time in the same place - and the Stabil treated gas is fine, and the non-treated one is bad.

kinda like your thinking on the stabil and new generation gasoline, never thought of it that way.As far as sea-foam, every older vehicle i have added it to after a while I have to lean out the mixture as it cleans out the carb so good.Bill M. from western ny.

I always had trouble with chain saws and small engines, weed eaters etc, then I started using STA BIL and eliminated virtually all the problems.

I've got 2 old yamaha 650 maxims in the back that have that in them, been inside a heated area all these years, but neither have run since '93.... think I'll need to dump that fuel and clean the carbs, but I did run it with stabil in there to get it into the carbs before letting em sit, good time of year to get rid of those bikes too, they might have to go, I'd be shocked if they ran, or that the carbs were not gunked up, might soon find out.

My Yamaha 1100 Virago sat all winter, had Stabil in the gas, started up instantly. Used to have a Maxim, nice bike. The 4 cylinder being as compact as it is,is a nice design. I don't understand why anyone would let them sit unused for so many years!

Yeah, I suspect it does work and I usually use it when I know something will be sitting for a year. That being said, I just started up a 79 Datsun 280ZX that's been in storage for three years and never had any Stabil added. To my surprise - I stuck a battery in it - it started right up - zero problems.

With stuff I have at home, I have many tractors that sit all winter and start right up in the spring with no Stabil added. Seems gas can last a pretty long time when stored in an air-tight container.

My only point here is - maybe Stabil is good for long term storage. But, I wouldn't give all the credit to it just because some gas lasted a winter. And yes - I know what bad gas is like. I've had to fix many machines with gas turned to varnish - mostly in small power equipment that had sat for many years.

Well . . . I'm not sure what your warning is referring to. But . . . what I am referring to is that cars and trucks have had have unvented closed-loop fuel systems for years (not counting the carbon cannisters). Older vehicles and tractors had vented gas caps and/or tanks. The newer closed systems seem to have fewer bad-gas problems.

Also - in regard to 5 gallon plastic gas cans - although I wasn't referring to them - are just about all air-tight. That's why you're not supposed to fill them all the way - room needs to be left for expansion. If you're trying to say they're dangerous in some way - I don't believe it. I've been using them over 40 years and had no problems yet.

small engines seeem to have more problems because of very small jets etc whereas larger carbs on tractors don't have near the problems. I had better luck with Sea Foam myself but Sta-Bil is good.

When I bought my Jonsered chainsaw they said, make sure you use Sta-Bil if it is going to sit for more than three weeks not run. I didn't listen. Well.... the fuel gummed up the fuel line and filter and the saw wouldn't run. I now store everything with Sta-Bil if it is going to sit not running for more than two weeks.

Yep, Sta-bil and Seafoam. Two chemicals that actually do what they promise. Makes you wonder when they'll take them off the market!

I have been using it for about 5 years and results are fantastic. even up to a full year later the gas still burns fine.
I put in all my can gas for my small engines, tractors, etc.
