Well I took the center out of a clutch in my HG/Oliver 60 yesterday. I'm thinking about trying to weld the center back into it. Is this crazy or will it work. I know to replace it I will need to find a clutch for an HG but none of my books list parts for the Cletrac HG

I used a clutch from an 8N in my HG and it worked perfect.

Old, Before you put in another one and have the same failure, I would check the alignment of the shaft. The shaft in the clutch must be perpendicular to the clutch plate and centered on the crankshaft. It must be centered within .008 tir (total indicator runout) that means not more than .004 of an inch of crank center- line. With small amounts of error it will wear out the splines, and with large amounts of error it will break the center out of the clutch plate and destroy the input bearing to whatever is connected to the other end of the clutch shaft.

Ya I have wondered about that being that problem. I know this engine does not belong in this machine so I may need to shim up a carrier bearing I have on it to make sure the clutch shaft sit truer then it does now. But hey I got 2 years or more out of it like it was but I also didn't use it a lot either

Since it is a balanced item NO you can't weld it.

As previously stated. Manufactures often used the same common off the shelf cheap run of the mill identical Spicer, Hays or etc clutch. The Spicer two stage pressure plate for my JD 435 came out of a Massey 35.

We replace the pressure plate/clutch on our Cletrac General GG with the same part number as the clutch that was in our Ford 8N, so they are very common parts.

You may be able to weld it back in, but it probably will not perform as expected. Keep in mind that there was probably a lot of twisting going on just before it let go, and you'll never get it back straight again.

We have a clutch and brake place nearby that can get about anything like that (if they don't have it).

There must be someplace like that in your area?

Or identify the brand of clutch, and find a plate with the same size/count of splines. In most cases, the plate is not "special", and has other applications.

I took a clutch and pressure plate from an Oliver 1550 to a commercial clutch and brake place in Tacoma- he just glanced at it, got my name and number, and said it would be ready Tuesday. I asked, "Don't you want to know what it is off of?" He said they really don't care- all the parts are stock parts, and they'll make it work.

Can you post a photo of the lined plate, along with the diameter, spline count and spline size... I have some clutch rebuilder's information I'd take a look at.

Bob I went and looked at what I had laying around and found that a clutch disk from an Allis C fits the shaft and it the right diameter so maybe I'll be back in business in a day or so

Bob, clutch disk is 8.5 inches, 10 count on the splines and looks to be right at 1 inch spline shaft. I haven't done so yet but plan to look in my parts pile to see if I luck out and find one that I have on hand that might fit. Sure would like to be able to use this little crawler a good bit more it does such a nice job of taking out thorn trees and black berry's and doesn't have problems with flat tires LOL

Put some possibly bad news on your post on the Oliver forum before I saw this one. Good luck.

Sounds like an early Jeep clutch plate.

Boy, I dunno. You would have to be very carefull and make sure the center is perpendicular to the disc. You could try it I suppose, but if you weld it, put it back together and it breaks, then you will have to take it apart again.
