Too bad you didn't post here before the purchase. We could have steered you into something more useful for the same amount of money. Live pto, power steering, high volume/high pressure hydraulics that can support a loader or hydraulic implements, a diesel engine, a real drawbar and less of a tendency to roll ontop of it's driver. The later and better optioned 8N series were much better but they are still throwbacks to the 9N & 2N. While I bleed JD green. For used tractors at the price of a Ford. A Massey 35/135 is tough to beat and handles a front end loader without breaking.

If it's a 4 speed and those fenders are original, it's a 641. Lower right/center of block should be cast 310605 for the '58 & '59 134cid engine. About 35 hp and the pto speed is 540/universal for most tractors of that era. It should handle a 5 foot mower with little problem and even a 6 footer if running at all well. Save yourself a TON of aggravation and money by investing in the operators manual. AND, a service manual if you're going to wrench on it. Best of success and tractor safe.

If it is a 1958 it would be a600 series, looks to have the Workmaster writing on the hood which should make a 1959-1962 model 601 series, depending on transmission could be a 641 thru 671. should be on the tranmission housing behind the starter on the flat, you may need to clean off excess paint or so to see it but should say something like 641
****** (numbers for the serial number), appears to me to be a 601 series from what I can see.
good luck, Kent

So it's a 1958 "641", a MUCH better (more modern) tractor than the 8N you THOUGHT you had!

Try again. 1952 was the end of 8N production.

Take a look at the site below to figure out what you have, or post a photo.

If it IS an 8N, it's about 27 engine HP.

Send it to bigcoulee@hotmail.com, and I'll post it for you. (After the next 10 or 15 minutes, I'll be away from the 'puter 'til sometime late afternoon or evening.) (CDT)

Well, it's definitely a LATER model than an 8N... in reply to Doreen, 05-01-2008 08:39:46
Well, it's definitely a LATER model than an 8N.

Take a look for the model and serial number at the location shown in the last photo, and post back. I'm sure someone more familiar than I am with the post-8N tractors will chime in, as well!

If the PTO shaft has 6 splines its almost sure to be 540 RPM.

Hp, My guess is 35 to 40.
