Finding tillage parts for small plows

I've been running around for a week now trying to find new plow shares for some of my smaller rigs - a Deere two-bottom 14" and a Deere three bottom 16". Up to this year - I never had a problem - i.e. it was a no-brainer. Just about every farm store near me had shelves of tillage parts - all aftermarket. And, the local tractor dealers had their own - put out front during springtime. This year - I got a little surprised. I bent two points on my Deere 412-14 plows (two bottom 14"). I first went down to Tractor Supply Co. and they don't sell them anymore. In frustration, I drove down to the local Deere tractor dealer - nothing. I went back home and looked up my plows at the Deere website - and they have the parts catalog for the plows but NO shares. I got thinking this is kind of weird. I then pulled out several farm supply catalogs that I've often used in the past for plow and cultivator parts. This year - they all dropped plow parts - nothing. I'm wondering what happened? Seems several places gave up selling the stuff - all at the same time. And - Deere Company? Their claim to fame was the "self cleaning" plow. And now - they don't sell older plow parts? I finally found a place on-line that said they had them - a Temco dealer. They shipped them out to me - and - they are wrong. I checked the number on them - Star Manufac. # A10004A. They are old and rusty and must have been leftovers sitting in the mud somewhere. Ends up they only fit some Deere 16" three-bolt plows - not my 14". I realize this isn't very interesting reading - but seems if I'm having trouble - maybe some other's are too? Or am I the only person using 2 and 3 bottom plows anymore?

Sounds like there was only one manufacture of these plough parts and they quit supplying everybody. In the same boat with my two old JD ploughs. One is an early model #415 ( I think ? ) 2 X 12" with 14" parts bolted onto the frog. It works well enough but it ain't quite right somehow. Looks like it's time to get a plasma cutter and make new bolt holes in other similar sized plough wear parts.

Thanks for all the input. This is where I'm at. Just about every dealer I called told me that three-bolt shares for Deere plows were dropped this year. That's why many of last year's catalogs show them.

I found a Cresent dealer that had two on the shelf and says he can't get any more. True or not? I don't know. Also - I tried to order some heavy-duty rock-shares from Osmundson. Again - several local dealers told me they are no longer made and cannot get them. So - I then called Osmundson directly - and was told they DO make them - but do not have any in stock. They said they will make more in late June but I cannot buy direct. They suggested I put in an order through Tractor Supply Company.

All this seems kind of silly - but I guess things are changing - and not much I can do about it.
Granted - my Deere plows were new in 1952 - but if anything they are better then many of the small 3 point plows for sale today.

There is a place just west of Ithaca Michigan called Fowlers Farm City Sales. This is the biggest, oldest gold mine of farm equipment parts I have ever seen. Their phone number is (989)875-3976. I would be willing to bet they have everything you need. My dad just came home the other day with three new plowpoints for his 3 bottom IH plow and had them changed in about a half hour. I asked where he got them and he said at Fowlers. Anybody on this board that is from Michigan has probably either been there or heard of this place. It is an experience to go there that is for sure. You walk around in awe wondering how somebody could have so much inventory of stuff in the world! Give them a call. Good luck.

JD:
You might try White Horse Machine. I think they are an Amish manufacturer in the Lancaster, PA area. I have not dealt with them yet, but a buddy of mine has a 3-14" JD #44 or #55, I forget which, but he gets all of his shares from them. He says they break/bend less and wear longer than the TSC shares. Good prices too. Their number is 717-768-8313. They ship UPS direct to your door complete with plow bolts. Give them a call. I know I will. I am rebuilding a JD 810 3-14 and I ran into the same thing you have. Seems that a lot of vendors quit carrying the 3-bolt 14" JD shares. I'm laid up with a broken leg at present so this project has been put on the back burner for now. Let us know how you make out. Cause I need shares, a shin and a moldboard once I get back on my feet.
Rick

Sounds familiar. I was behind on projects then broke a leg a year ago. Still catching up on the work. The leg aches on occassion and is unexpectantly weak in some situations. Last week I took a spill off a step ladder while carrying a load of junk into the storage loft. Well at least the load of stuff in junk now. And I have some bruises and scrapes. I'm beginning to believe now, some of the things my physician and physiotherapists were telling me.

We went through that 20 years ago with the old plows we had. Those were a 2 bottom Ferguson-Sherman and an old David Brown with the same bottom. They had cast points/shares. At one time we had a bunch of them cast at a local foundry, but they're long since out of business. Still have a stock of them but we need boards.... and we couldnt get boards or any other parts for those plows. The Browns are apt to be reduced into neat 2x5 pieces yet this summer...
That's one of the main reasons we went out and bought a new Kverneland plow several years ago. Parts are easy when you're dealing with a mainline manufacturer who's still actively building plows, and who made their name on plows.
Hope you find some shares somewhere, but I don't know where....

Rod

It's kind of odd, lot of those 2 bottom ford, dearborn, and harry ferguson in other areas, my friend had left his 2 bottom HF here, and I had used it for small plots, but he needed up at his place so I scoured it up after several passes and loaded it onto his truck, can't find a 2 bottom ford, HF or DB anywhere near here, some dealer in KY has a pile of em, used to see em for $200, now $500-$800, though I have seen em on the YT ads here, 250-400, just have to find someone who has deck space or something. No hurry now, but did notice they are hard to find reasonable here locally.

I tried finding parts for that HF 2 bottom, no luck, did you try value bilt ?

Lot of people with smaller tractors and food plots, these implements are getting bought up and used, that dealer in KY had sold listed on a lot of them. Have seen few in Ohio, but nothing here.

I was at a temco dealer north of here and they had some tillage parts on the shelf, but they seem to have to order most things, I have a temco book in front of me, they list wear parts for 14" and 16" JD metric and undercut,3,4,5 hole (shares) moldboards, shins, landslides, shares-conventional, trash and rock couple of part #s each for 14" 16' JD.

Thanks for the link. The local farm store near me is a Cresent dealer - seems you can't buy direct. The dealer tells me that Cresent no longer makes three-bolt shares for Deere plows - but - the Cresent website shows shows them. So ???
