Another couple wants us to go along. Our wives want to know what else there is to see and which days of the show are the better days to go. Also a good place to stay. Thanks in advance. J.

Probably the best and biggest I ever saw. Bout 8 years ago. Run till late at night. Had Crystal Gale or somebody and a band. Lots of indoor exhibits. Only complaint, MUD.

I was there last, 10 years ago. It"s the biggest
gathering of steam engines in the midwest, I
would guess 100. also hundreds of tractors
Lots and lots for women to do. Broom factory,
candy making, CRAFTS.
But had to stay at Iowa City 1 hour north on 4
lane. everything local booked a year earlier.

Attend early last day is load out day. Have good grand stand show look at web site. All roads leading to the show are a 20 mile yard sale. Last one I was at had much green paint. The boat on the river will take your dollars. Working steam train with actors creating a train robbery. They will accept your estate and put a plack on the wall in your name. Very wealthy in land and cash holdings. Stationay steam engine with fly wheel of 12 feet working and smaller ones working all under roof. Yard parking is big by the grounds.

If the motels there are full then Burlington is 20 miles down a four lane hiway that has quite a few rooms.

If you don't have a room by last years show you may be out of luck.

There is more stuff for the wives than they can see in one day. There has to be something for them regardless of what they take intrest in. I guess I have never heard of anyone being not intrested on the first visit---ever.

The ladies may be interested in a super Walley world, and don't forget to observe their distrabution center. You may have to look at a distance however. The whole town cashes in on the dollars.

I try to go every year, and have a game plan usualy. Be sure to have a meeting place at a certian hour, avoid meals at regular meal times. It is not imposible to get tired out before sundown. Be at the indoor museums as they open, otherwise they get real crowded. We try to visit the big indoor steam engines on the first sit down break time.

The swap tent is usualy very busy, and folks take the bargins out all day. You probably can't see it good in one day.

I agree with BJ. I live only about 2 hours west of Mt. Pleasant. There is a lot of older tractors, and steam engines. A whole area full of small engines and much more. There are plenty of vendors set up around the grounds, and there is a village type thing that is south of the ground that you can reach by train. Also, the square up town is packed full of all kinds of goodies. Last year was my first time that I made it to the square and was really shocked with everything up there. I have never been over there on Thursday or Friday, but Saturday and Sunday are both good days to attend most exhibits still in place. Monday after the noon parade things start to clear out pretty good usually, and then everything wraps up after the invitational horse pull that packs the grandstands. Overall a great show. Just my 2 cents worth. -Dan

Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun are all good days there are all kinds of vendors set up around the block in down town as well as countless yard sales all through the town. Might be a good idea to try to reserve a room NOW they fill up quick in town.
