Mornin,
I have an early 50's model Fergeson that currently has 12.4 X 28 tires on the rear. I have found a pair of used 14.9 X 28 tires for sale locally and wondered if they would fit. If so, what is the difference? A little taller? A little wider?

They would give you a race tractor, and one with no pull power

About 3" wider and 4-1/2" taller.

They are both taller and wider and would probably be to big for the tractor you have. If you did put them on your ground speed would increase a good bit and on those rims they would wear funny and look funny

Measure the inside width of the rim where the tire bead rest. A general rule of thumb is to go one number higher than the width measurement. For example a rim width of 10" would use an 11.2 tire. An 11" a 12.4, etc. It is common to go one size over. For example a 12.4 on a 10" would be acceptable, but a 13.6 or a 14.9 wound not.

Taller, wider, basically too much tire for a Fergie 20, 30, or even 35. I'd stay with 12.4x28 and load them with liquid ballast if you plan on working tractor. Make it safe. Mr. Bob
