a "Comet" with an 8 horse Briggs?
You overfilled the oil- it's pushing it out the breather tube (which goes to the carb, and puts it back into the cylinder where is burns and creates the smoke). If that ain't it, run the beejeeses outta it-it will stop smoking or stop running.

I just got two of these lil' dudes at an online auction, and the kids are having a blast racing around the yard while mowing. They smoked like freight trains when first fired up- but run pretty clean after a dozen hot laps.

Now...if your Snapper has a turbo, all bets are off.

Have you checked and cleaned the air filter?

Are you just asking the Hay guys or can anyone answer? hehe

What color is the smoke? Blue?

Are you saying it smokes after you changed the oil? If so, are you sure you didn't over fill it?

If it has been blowing blue smoke for some time it may be time for an overhaul as it is most likely pulling oil past the rings.

If this is an engine that has been sitting and your just getting it going, the rings could be stuck. In this case you could try one of Old's tricks and soak it up with tranny fluid to see if they will come loose.

Really need more info for more specific answers.

Need more info. As in what engine it has and which one it is. If it smokes bad what weight oil did you put in it. Old engines run better on heavy weight oil because they are wore out. My mom has an old mower that we run 50W oil in because it burns so much oil but it keeps on keeping on if we do that

The seal is probably blown in the turbo.

Was the oil you put in, as recomended 30 wt. if so could be stuck rings or a breather problem.

i think it either needs an ajustment or a ring job. If it has a briggs engine, i would ajust the carb some
