Front tractor tires

Another tire question folks. The tires on the front of my tractor are 5x16 4 ply. They are fine under normal inflation until I hang the frontloader on, then they kinda squash down a little and get worse when I pick anything up.. Just saw some 8 ply advertised w/ the 3 rib design and some with an actual tread pattern. Would 8 ply handle more load? Or, am I looking at it wrong? Also, the worn out tires that I have now have (had) a tread pattern. When I get new ones, is there a benefit/drawback of one design over the other (tread vs rib)?

Thanks, Dave

Here in Germany, tractors go through inspection and get a license plate just like a car. Mine can only have 5x16 or 5.50 x 16 without costing about 200 bucks to go through inspection again and get the paperwork changed.

I just found some 3 rib 8 ply that I'll order.

Thanks, Dave

If you use your loader a lot, might want to look at taller tires (6.50-
7.50). May not pass the correct police, but i,ve found they roll a lot easier under load.

Thanks! 3 rib or tread, or is it a personal preference?

Dave

Fewer ribs tend to bite more when turning - good - if you need to turn sharp, bad - if you're on a lawn. I have 2 85 h.p. tractors - one with 3-rib, one with 4. 3-ribs turn better when it's muddy or snowy. My other tractors all have 3-rib, except the big one, which is front wheel assist.

Yes it is personnel preferance. We have discussed this before and never really came to conclussion that one is better than the other. I prefer the 4-rib just because I think they look better on the tractor.

Yes 8 ply tires will handle more load than 4 plys.

8ply tires will handle more weight because they will take more air pressure than a 4 ply.

4 plys are barly heavy enough with no loader. Switch to 8s and pump them up.
