I have not placed anything on ebay in a couple of months, went to post a skid steer tonight, got almost done and they said I must except paypal because of my limited feed back. 67 and 100% positive. Guess I 'll be posting somewhere else. Dave

It has turned into a buyers market except for the gouging on shipping by the sellers to make up for the ebay fees. More an more a refusing to take pay pal payments. Most will not sell out side of the US. I sent a note to a fourth time relisting and stated his shipping was rather high. He dropped it three dollars and said he had not noticed. Still no bids due to item listed too high. Most when contacted will reduce the shipping if I think it is over board. I do hammer the star rating for shipping when gouged on the shipping. All of the stars ratings must be above 4.2. At 4.2 point rating the seller will be removed.

If I see an item with outrageous shipping, I turn it in to Ebay. They check it out and generally cancel the auction. I was looking for a flash drive, its about the size of your thumb, and some guy had $19.00 shipping. I turned every one of them in to Ebay and they got pulled.

I agree, paypal is great if you are a buyer, it simply penalizes sellers. Hear is the way the new rules read as of March 2008: Limited transaction history [ as stated before I have 67 feedback 100% positive] You must accept paypal, payments, will be held for up to 21 days, if no buyer dispute, claim or other action, funds will be released. Now wait a second, they charge you 3-4% to accept paypal, then hold it for up to an additional 21 days while they are again collecting interest. Once again, a good thing go's sour. Dave

If you have only one item to sell, such as a skid steer, Craigs list is probably the best option. If you have many items to sell, open an account on e-crater and start listing. All e-crater items are up-loaded automatically to Google, so within a few days you will be getting more hits than you ever got on ebay. Also, sign up for a Google checkout account. With Google, the only way the scammers can get their money back is by doing a charge back on their credit card, and if you can prove that the scammer did receive that item, then google will not honor that chargeback.

Craigslist is gaining in popularity. I wonder how long it will be free ? Maybe once it takes off really good they will start charging ?

I'm in a dispute with Paypal now. They are calling me telling me they will report it to my credit rating if I don't pay up.
All because a acammer claimed he never recieved the part and then closed his Ebay account.
I will never use Paypal again. I wish there would be a class action law suit against them. I would definately join it.

I am in the same boat as Ultradog. Had someone in England win a bid, paid through paypal, sent item USPS insured. Buyer decided he didn't want item and never picked it up. Paypal refunded his money even though I had all the documentation showing that it was shipped and sitting in England at customs. So now I am out the item and the $400. I am trying to get my item back, but this is a load of BS. I will never, ever use Paypal again!

I haven"t run into that , yet ?

I do accept pay-pal on my small items I sell. The fees are getting really LARGE to use it. Great if your the buyer, but the seller gets hit hard with fees.

I buy a lot of items on ebay and if the seller will only accept Paypal I don't bid.Have also noticed those that only accept Paypal do not get as much for their items as similar items that can be paid for with a Money Order, check etc.BTW Us Old tractor folks are STILL in the Stone Age and the customer is KING!

He said "except", which I guess means he cannot "accept" Paypal.

I believe the original poster is complaining that Ebay is forcing him to accept PayPal because of his limited feeback numbers, when he doe NOT want to use PayPal. Personally, I've never had a bad transaction ( 261@ 98.9%) and I get some great deals. Of course you have to know the value of what you're buying. Example I just bought all the service /operators/repair/and parts manuals for the Case DI w/Lull front end loader I just pruchased. I'm living up here in central Oregon at 4200ft elevation next to the Deschute National forest and the little town 30 miles away has really nothing in it i.e. Z06 Corvette parts, diesel motorcoach parts, Case tractor parts, MotoStat equipment..... .... The clue is to do your homework on the seller as well as the item. I will not use sellers that have no track record or less than 98% positive feedback. The PayPal works well for me in other dealings like buying parts on this forum, No having to find a post office and get a money order, ect. I don't know but some years ago my wife got me involved with Ebay. Who would think that my old HotRod , Rod & Custom, Corvette magazines were worth anything. Shoot I was going to throw them out but the little woman said put them on Ebay. 55 pounds of old magazines brought close to $1100. I soon found out that there is somebody looking for something I don't want anymore. Works for me.

DieselDave- I have tons of old magazines too, but when I've checked ebay to see what the going prices were, all I saw are tons of ads for one magazine at a time for like 99 cents each, and I don't have the time to list 100 or so magazines separately.

Did you sell all your magazines one at a time, or did you just sell them in bulk? Which way do ya think would get the most money?

Sorry for not getting back to your question Ron. I sold the magazines in bulk as in the magazine titles i.e. HOT ROD, CORVETTE, HIGH PERFORMNCE PONTIAC, ect. So really in groups. I had 200 plus pound of magazines. Had folks going crazy to bid.
