I got sent these pics, and put the rest of them up on the community photos. Not sure how the machine will easily get down. All I know is that I don't have to mental stuff to rely on oil pressure... Hard to tell if the train backed up for buddy to give him a leg up.

Its not whether you can, its whether you should. I'd fire any man of mine risking damage to any piece of my equipment or risking bodily harm to anyone.
It's STUPID stunts like this that drives insurance rates thru the roof. Just plain STUPID.

Keith is right, notice the modified outriggers on the backhoe. That backhoe is DESIGNED to do that. This has been posted before in stuck and troubled. With a properly maintained machine and a competent operator, this is a impressive but safe operation.

Thats not a stunt. That is common practice to unload rock along railroad right of ways. Thats what they do everyday.

Yep nothin new, When i was first starting out in the excavating business, didnt have enough money for two trailers, so only one trailer and dumptruck to carry the 955 loader and just the dumptruck to haul around the case 580ck. So i basically loaded the backhoe onto the dumptruck the same way this guys loading it on the train car. Then after the first year had a little money ahead and bought a trailer, only it had no ramps, so it got loaded the same way.

Also I dug out footings in a basemnt that had been dug with a track hoe, so no ramp entrance, did the same thing only backwards and got out the same way.

Would I do all that now, hell no, too old to do it now.

Some years ago I witnessed a Case 580 CK backhoe climb up onto the gondola car with no assistance at all..It was all done with the hydraulics of the backhoe..That man had bigger cuyones than I have....

Have seen these before, amazing how he can walk it up on that hopper car with only a winch and backhoe hydraulics.
My question is, what is he doing up there ?
Just seeing if he can walk it up there or what?

Then they jump from railcar to railcar down the train. Certainly puts trust in the hydraulic hoses & seals.
Seen photos of hopping up without using a winch, just pushing with the hoe.
Must be some non union shops that are not interested in safety.

A little hard to wrap my head aroud that one.

There's no front wheel assist, and I can't see any obvious way to push the tractor forward and onto the railcar, except with the backhoe. You wouldn't do that with a 3-pt hoe!

With no extend-a-hoe that would be a extra bumpy ride.

There's a cable hooked to the front of the hoe that winches it forward. The front bucket is made wider, and the outriggers to support it.

This was on youtube about a month ago and there was no cable or winch on it. IT is all done with the backhoe and loader The scoop sets on top and slides on the cars. the rear outriggers have a big angle iron on to keep it centered on the car. I seen one move from car to car unloading railroad ties and the train never stoped moving. Mike

Someone recently posted those either under stuck and troubled or tractor photos, so I sent them to some fellas that work at a power plant where they index and flip the coal cars through the "car dumper". I told them that this guy says car dumpers are for...(not repeatable here).

Gotta give them heavy equipment operators their due. Got bigger (not reapatable here) and skills than I do. Give them guys a raise.
