Calves are coming, That Normande that has had me nervous for the last 3 weeks dropped a nice black calf this am, She was bred to red angus but the calf is solid black with a baseball size block of white on its fore head. Havent checked to se if its a boy of girl. I was also Surprised that my charlios/pizguar/red angus cross dropped a calf this am as well, big solid red bull. She really surprised me, didnt look ready at all, figured she was a couple weeks off. She was my surprisinly friendliest cow lately, today she is the awnryiest, get away from my calf, mother from heck, gonna give her her space for a few days. Kind of exciting for us, 1st 2 born on this place for us.

Great news and really makes me miss those days in Iowa. One of the best days there each year was the the first calf dropped alive and the last tailender. Miss those days a lot. We had whiteface cows with cross Simmental and Red Angus bulls. Nothing prettier than a frisky calf enjoying a warm afternoon, taking a drink and then a short nap. Enjoy. Migraine

Mornin' Dave,

Don't give 'er too much "space". The longer you wait, the harder it is to wrestle that calf.

Get 'im doctored.

Allan

Guess I'm kinda differant from most. I don't doctor mine till they get weaned. Then they get the shots and all.

I have nothing against the newbon method it just seems I don't get them all done so I end up running them thru the chute anyway. So I quit the newborn method and do them later.

Whatever works for you is the way to go I guess.

Gary
