Need some advice.
I have an old Civil War era cemetary on the back side of the property right on the edge of the woods. I cleaned it up pretty well, but I have a "sappling" issue- lil' trees and bushes growing up. I can't mow through because of the stones close proximity, and i don't want to kill the ground cover, just the saplings. Ideas?

I"d try Crossbow. It"s used on woody plants. Read the label and see if it"s approved for the use you need.

If you want to get rid of brush and saplings, cut the tops off to about 8" above groung level with lopers or saw, then paint the stump with roundup herbicide (41% A.I) thinned 1 to 1 with water. This is a legal use of roundup and is in the roundup label. This will kill out most young trees/brush with no damage to anything else. The only thing to watch out for is that some of the big box stores that sell roundup sell some formulations that are really dilute, so don't go by price, compare by A.I. (% active ingredient)

There are some good web sites that list most chemicals and their effectiveness and longevity in the soil. Use the least toxic that will do the job.

I'd suggest asking either your extension service or local chemical dealer for what's available/appropiate in your area..... ..Spike, Crossbow, Remedy, Tordon, etc.

Do you know someone that works as a tree trimmer like for a power line? They use a chemical on tree stumps that prevents regrowth.
