Hi, I found this site while looing for info about my new tractor. It's a 1948 Allis Chalmers (well it's new to me) s.n. WD8793 Eng.s.n. 284911PA. We moved to a 10 acer farm in n.w. Georgia and afriend bought the tractor for me. It will never see a parade or even a new paint job. I will be using it too much on the place. I've been pulling trees out of the ground with it. A local farmer gave me another one for parts. s.n.WD79520 Eng WD286702Pa. It came with a loader which I do not need. I have started removing all of the usable parts. The intake and carb was missing as well as the gas tank and hood, but has a nice grill. The engine is stuck so I'll try to rectify that. I do not know enough about the WD to ask intelligent questions so I just say there are things I want and things I don't want, so I'lll make a list.
I want,,,,a wide front end, 3 point hitch, a seat with a back, temp gage, bush hog, disk harrow. What I don not want or need, the loader, most everything I cannot just unbolt from the parts tractor. Cash is short here so if you want to trade I'm open to talk. My tractor runs great but shows it's age, about all I can say about the tires is they still hold air. I don't care about the rusted out fenders as I am a metal shaper and will make new ones. I also teach metal shaping and how to use the English wheel and other metal shaping tools.
I have pictures of the parts tractor but do not know how to post them on the site, if someone wants to see them and is willing to help post that would be great.
looking forward to hearing from other wd owners.

I agree with the others . The loader is worth as much as the tractor.

There are 2 kinds of people: Those that have a loader on their tractor, and those that need one and WISH they had one. Sadly, I'm the latter. Keep the loader :)

Be careful and have fun.

2 comments, pulling trees and other heavy objects is definitely dangerous, make sure to rig below the axle line, even then front end can come up fast and over like a mouse trap, and you are the mouse. Lost a relative 2 years ago from a mishap like that, flipped over and got him, another fellow just over the hill here, got bumped off his tractor and ended up under the brush hog, senseless fatalities, pays to know the limitations of these things.

The loader might be real handy, I'd have withdrawal symptoms without one. Also makes it easy to weight down the front end with a load of dirt or heavy object, just the loader by itself will help with a little weight in the front.

We went for years without a loader. Had one put on our Ford 2810 last year. Now we wonder how we did without it. They are extremely useful. It will be worth whatever it takes to put that loader on your running tractor.

One good thing that the loader is real good at is getting unstuck just for that alone I would have it.

Don't need a loader ??? Don't you have any dirt, stumps, manure, brush, firewood etc on your farm ???

BE MOST CAREFUL about pulling brush and trees with the tractor hitch. It is easy to go a$$ over tea kettle. Lots of people have killed themselves that way, Including the father of a friend of mine - just when he was starting to enjoy his retirement.

There are lots of tutorials on how to post pictures. Take some pictures of the tractor in use and post 'em; I'd love to see some of it pulling trees out of the ground.

I'm with Leon. I grew up on a farm with a loader on an 8N Ford, and that was the most useful feature on the tractor. The loader was never off in the 30 years dad had the tractor. I have been "part time farming" for close to 40 years, and don't recall a time when I haven't had a loader tractor. Great for carrying stuff around (fence posts and wire, tools, the generator to run the skilsaw "out in the back 40", etc); lifting heavy stuff; once you start using it, you won't want to be without it.

I would think twice about not needing the loader. I have a similar sized parcel and would not be without it. Even though my loader is a quick detach type it is on the tractor almost all the time. Only comes off when I am haying.
