What kind of fluid is used in the power steering of a jd 70 gas? Does it have to be jd brand?

AF2235R for the qt. bottle. $5.19, not cheap but highly recommended by the "experts".

I guess you could use some other type of fluid but the jd ps fluid is highly recommended. Why take chances.

That's true. I guess what I am really trying to ask is the type of fluid like hydrolic oil or is there a specific power steering fluid? Also, I live 80 miles from the nearest dealer and I need the tractor without a special trip just for that.

Well if you have to run it ? any oil is going to be better than NO oil ! I know of a few running around with ATF or Hy-Gard in them. When/if the leaks get fixed or system worked on may as well put the JD stuff in it to be sure. If it doesn't leak out then it is good for along time as I doubt many got changed very much due to the pain in the rear it is to do it.

That power steering system is "tricky", at best. DO NOT scrimp on the fluid.

Heck, some $5.00 a quart isn't bad, nowadays!

I can understand the situation. JD does have a specific ps oil for those old two cylinders. I have no idea what would match up to it in other brands.

I have a gas 70. It's a nice tractor. I was told by two different Deere mechanics , do not use a different fluid. I don't think it will work with something else. Get the Deere fluid.
